If only I had them!!!

missing disks reward

They probably put them in the post. I only got my letter apologising for losing my details yesterday!

Actually I have a theory that the disks were never lost at all. I suspect the dozy 23 year old didn't actually burn them in the first place. When a fuss was made he just said he had, burned a set and sent them off. I am, of course, totally basing this theory on my 11 years experience of working with young adults who, in my experience, will always lie, even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary, rather than admit to any failing.

Tee hee. I can just see my lazy DS2 sticking to a hopeless and counterproductive lie of that sort even when it had brought the entire political establishment to its knees.

How much are they paying?

Iota · 06/12/2007 14:03

oooh 20K

CharleeSawMummyKissingSanta · 06/12/2007 14:04

Surley they could be worth more than that to some people though? Lets hope no wrongun gets thier hands on them.

claricebeansmum · 06/12/2007 14:05

I got my letter of apology today - just the three weeks then to let me know that they've lost all my details blah blah blah

TheYoungVisiter · 06/12/2007 14:07

[scurries off to find blank cds in the hope of somehow compiling a database of all child benefit users before Xmas]

Iota · 06/12/2007 14:07

oi YV - I'm already on it - that 20k is mine

TheYoungVisiter · 06/12/2007 14:24

shall we combine forces? I reckon it will take quite a while to type them up. 10k each - what do you say?

claricebeansmum · 06/12/2007 14:26

I think you will see I have done it already but have taken the trouble to encrypt it first.

£20K is mine!

TheYoungVisiter · 06/12/2007 14:27

I'm up to 6 so far Iota. I've done me, my two cousins and three friends.
Just off to ring them to ask for their bank details now and then it's only 14,999,994 to go.

TheYoungVisiter · 06/12/2007 14:31

[googling for decryption software]

Actually MNHQ probably have all that info on CD already, plus they could supply Alistair Darling with our MN posting names. What a bonus.

Iota · 06/12/2007 15:28

finished!!

am putting in the post now - Recorded Delivery of course

TheIceQueen · 06/12/2007 15:39

20k is NOTHING, as DH pointed out yesterday for just a couple of 100 of those records whoever has the discs (if anyone actually does!), could get that amount, and more from someone wanting to put it to the wrong use!

TheYoungVisiter · 06/12/2007 20:27

mmm, I'm sceptical Icequeen. Although the press have gone to great length to make us feel paranoid the info isn't actually that secret or useful. Every time you write a cheque to someone they've got your name, bank details and probably address and armed with that information it's not that hard to find out the rest.

Allegedly the real money is going to people who work in bank call centres. Apparently for a few grand you can get complete details of someone's account, exact balance, recent transactions, mother's maiden name. I heard it on radio 4 so it must be true

TheIceQueen · 06/12/2007 20:35

TYV - trust me that sort of information is worth a lot of money.

When we set up the business (which failed LOL), 2yrs ago DH paid staggering amounts of money just to get a list of 500 businesses to contact!!

So even just as a "mailing" list 7.5 million famlies is worth a fortune!

TheYoungVisiter · 06/12/2007 20:44

that's true! I hadn't thought of the spam potential. Gosh, yes I bet somewhere like the early learning centre would pay £££££s for a mailing list of every single parent in the country.

[lawsuit averting disclaimer - although of course I am sure the ELC would only ever pursue legal means of obtaining one]

TheIceQueen · 06/12/2007 20:47

typical cost (legally) for a single use consumer address is around 10-20p, multi-use 30-40p.....but with that you only get approval if you've submittted a final draft of what you'll be mailing out to the company supplying the mailing list and they approve.

7.5million records x 20p (for example) = £1.5million (I think)

On the black market - where Date Protection laws are not upheld - and the owner of the date just wants to sell it to the highest offer....and the purchaser doesn't care about the "rules" on using the data - well that's anyone's guess!

TheIceQueen · 06/12/2007 20:49

no ELC - would probably purchase one such as this )hope it works....

Click on "info" to see how much extra information they can purchase ontop of the basic name and address !
