Can't for the life of me think how anyone would look on this as a Good Thing To Do??!

Totally crass & insensitive, FFS.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 30/11/2007 19:16

having read the entire article it would appear that it was sent to those that had requested it in the past, with a covering letter (and the actual details inside a package inside the letter).

Start of the article makes it sound like it was totally unexpected, but the end makes it sound like it was Confused

I don't see how it can be tactless and insensitive.

The results were sent to families who had asked for them.

They were double-enclosed in a sealed envelope with an explanatory letter.

The coroner had spoken to the families and told them the results were forthcoming and that he could discuss them with the relatives should they wish.

It must be an awful letter to receive but it doesn't seem that they were sent out with no thought or care. Seems to me the Coroners Office did as much as they could.

bossybritches · 01/12/2007 16:18

Did they all know in advance though?

agree with sidge, sounds like coroner did everything he should. Long way from that swine who led the Marchioness Inquiry, who really, really went out of his way to further distress the relatives.

saw a bit of this on channel 4 news..

it was bit upsetting really, the old bloke said he didnt request it, but it had been sent, coroners office said it was in two envelopes (warning if you didnt want to see it!)
so my understanding was everyone got it..although some had requested it

SpacePuppy · 01/12/2007 19:38

Not insensitive at all, read it again, or do you want a debate?

Peachy · 01/12/2007 19:41

Sounds like Coroner behaved OK in this case

Officials can be insenstive though; several years ago now my DH's friend was crushed to death by a vehicle used in a local event. The Police returned the vehicle after tests with blood still on it. They returned it to his son

Even for Dh and the rest of them it would have been awful, but !!!!!

Six months after my sister woke up to find an intruder, armed with a kitchen knife, beside her in bed, the police sent her the evidence bags back. Awful - completely unannounced, full of bedding, underwear and personal stuff.

But much, much worse was the fact that the bags were sealed and had clearly never been opened; the police had done eff-all with them ever since the attack.
