Making toddler sons dumber? Dumber? ER? More dumb? So toddler sons are dumb?

It's shit. Total shit. I don't think 'some' children out of only 6000 can lead you to the conclusion that men are crap parents. How many out of 6000? And how many other factors are they not mentioning.

I don't believe this for a second.

This is something that's always worried me, given that DH has been SAHD since I went back to work after having DS1. I would like to see more detail if you can find it, AussieSim.

If you click on the second link that I posted and scroll to the bottom there is a link to the published article, which provides a bit more of a balanced picture than the poorly titled (have to blame an aussie tabloid journalist for the grammar) newspaper piece.

My DH doesn't have 15+ hours a week sole care for my DS's, but when he takes them for several hours on a weekend now and then he takes them to the movies and they end up having popcorn for lunch - not an intellectual experience I guess
.

If I remember rightly, this is the same research study that's led to suggestions that working mums have overweight kids.

Interesting but I think we should all be a bit

I think DP prob does do a lot less creatively with my 2 DS's than I would if I were at home but...

  1. would I in reality given everything else that needs to get done?
  2. both my kids have loads of one on one time with their grandparents
  3. at weekends I tend to spend all my time with them and I think the weekday afternoons when my eldest entertains himself are prob no bad thing
  4. DS1 goes to pre-school 5 mornings a week so is exhausted in the afternoons
  5. DS2 is only 18 months so his world revolves around climbing, singing, feeding and not glueing, sticking, baking etc.

Too much analysis is part of the modern day issue really....when I was a kid you joined in with what yr parents were doing or went and played on yr own.

Ironic that the news item itself is barely literate. He must have had a SAHD.

My instincts tell me that this is probably a lot of hairy old bolleaux that will lead to a lot of manbashing, and more depressingly further pressure and guilt for Mums who return to work.
