got this quote from another forum - sums it up really.

as a wife myself who's DH is in Iraq (luckily he's in the south west) I can honestly say..... none of our lads should be there. and those poor lads in black watch should have been brought home. their poor wives and familys, My heart really goes out to them. Unfortunatly thuo the Army being what it is and all, they will probably be home for next xmas if they're lucky and not sent back out there. I will be surprised thou if they are home early. but the S*&t will really hit the fan tomorrow for TB. (T&^T!)

Just been to bbc webpage to see the report. I live on the edge of Salisbury plains and am surrounded by Army. I used to work at dd's nursery and saw all the soldiers coming in in uniform to drop their little ones off on their last day before going out to Iraq. Would break my heart every time. They all need to be brought home.

you know thou, when DH left for this tour I promised I wouldn't cry infront of him, luckily I waited until he left, but now I like to speak to him at least twice a week even if one time is only an email or something, just to know he's ok.

Of course what hasn't helped the cause at all is those pics in the mirror. even thou they were proven as fake the damage is done. I'm just glad DH is no where near the american lot.

It's dreadful, just dreadful. Sigh, makes you wonder if we ever learnt anything from all the previous wars. On 11/11 I will bawl my eyes out like I always do, looking at all the old soldiers on both sides and with them wondering if it all was worth it.

DH is also in the army, and we have just heard that they are looking for a volunteer from his rank to go out to the gulf. I am hoping and praying that he doesn't get sent if no-one comes forward. It's awful every time something kicks off in the world, you automatically get a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach, wondering if this time he'll be sent. My prayers are with the families.

very good point Pagan, I hadn't thougt of it but you are right - how weird to have remembrance day next weekend while this is all going on.I wonder what the old war veterans make of it.

This time, I know it will sound odd to a lot of you (hopefully not marmaladesun) but I ddi ask DH to volenteer for Iraq, I know this may sound dumb to most, but he's been told every six months for the past 2 blinking years (since it all started) he was on the list to go, than at the last minute they would pull him off of it. and as such this time when he cam home in April and said i'm off to Iraq this October I did say yeah right, but then he said well they're asking for volenteers so I told him to go. Still doesn't stop me worrying, but as his SQN is on 'spear head' anyways he would have gone out in January 05. so as it stands at least we've not got it out of the way for this posting and when he comes home in April we will be able to concentrate properly on TTC. and not worry that he will be sent out again. (he's signals and luckily he's in a safer area)

I agree with the sick feeling, thou, but still, i'm sure this won't be the last time unfortunatly. and we'll always worry about them until they're all home safe.

I know exactly what you mean. The uncertainty with the army is unbelieveable, and you learn pretty early on not to believe anything until it actually happens. DH has said that if it looks as if he will be sent out, he will volunteer first, as it will be harder for his mindset if he is sent there. Does that make sense?

it does yes. I think DH was worried as he kept being taken off of telic, he was seen to be an avoider. I can't remeber the exact term he used thou. Still he's doing OK, i'm just glad he's no where near the north of the country in the 'hot' stops. My MIL however has added to the stress, and as this is his first tour, incl our longest time appart since he's been married, I don't like the additional hassel of her getting absolutly pissed then ringing me crying and stressing out. ( I don't mena that so sound harsh, but you understand where i'm coming from?)

Where are you MunnzieB? We're not long here (Suffolk) after being posted from Germany. Even our posting was cancelled at the last minute, so with a half packed flat and me pregnant we had no idea if/when/where we were going!

MunnzieB Hugs to you. I know how awful it is, my dh is in the RAF and was 'out there' for the first gulf war, afghanistan and the first part of this one. I wish you all the very best and hope that he is home soon. Dh volenteered to be one of the first ones to go out, and Iknow what you mean about the waiting. You know that they are going to be deployed at some time so in a daft way you almost want it to happen so that you can get it over with. Except that you don't want them to go at all

Marmalade - did they not offer you an extention because u r pg? apprently they allow you at our camp if you are over 6 months pg or have a baby under 6 months, but I don't know how true that is. We in the depths of pembrokeshire, way out with all the farmers! and sheep... lots of sheep! he's not rung me yet tonight thou, and it will be the first call he's missed so far. bit worried that everything is ok. Still it's good i've finally found other wives who know the feeling! Unfortunalty only about 3 other married lads went out this time, the rest go in jan. so I'm feeling like a spare part!

how long after you DH leaving on a tour was it before the whole really missing them passed. DH has been gone 4 weeks now, and so far all has been fine up until about 2 days ago, now it's really setting in that we've got another 8 weeks before R&R. it feels like forever already. although i am trying to keep focused on that date and as busy possible.

Just wanted to add that I've been through it all too so know what you're going through.

My DH is doing a staff job ATM but wants to go on Telic. He was one of the first to go to the 1st Gulf war in Sept 90 and has also done Afghanistan and Bosnia. I want him to leave for the children's sake.

Where are you in Suffolk MS? We had 3 years in Honington but moved last year.

P.S. to my last. I read in the Sunday Times that there's to be a protest march by army wives to Downing Street. Do any of you know anything about it as I'd go if I could.....

don't know a thing, but i've just posted DH's b'day pressies off to him and the MOD are paying for xmas boxes to be sent to telic up to 2 kg free of charge if you can believe that... quick some one alert the press cos u just know the MOD won't do it!

Hi Wifeof. We're in Wattisham. We've been here since March, having moved from Germany. MunnzieB, I was only 5 months pg when we moved, and we had been messed about so much with the posting that I would not have wanted to put it off any longer. Don't know anything about the march though, haven't heard anything at all.

i think i would be the same as that dad, tho threated geoff toon. then again I didn't get the full story so i'll have a peek and see. Still thou yet another one was killed in a road side bomb. it's not on really, I do really feel for those families.
