here

Wow.

Now, I'm the last person to take any interest in sport but with a 10 month old baby, you've got to admit this is seriously impressive.

Am I wrong to wonder if she breast fed....???

I think I read somewhere that she did b/feed and apparently having a baby is brilliant for long distance runners - increases oxygen capacity on something. Did you see the baby on the news - very cute!

PeachesMcScreamWhizzBangFizz · 04/11/2007 23:25

According to DH, she ran 150 miles a week until 6 months pregnant.

Yes, baby is very cute.

breast fed??? how? she has none!

NorthernLurker · 04/11/2007 23:26

150 miles a week! YOu would have thought she could have afforded a car wouldn't you

NorthernLurker · 04/11/2007 23:27

smeeinit - that's the wonder of breastfeeding

mummypig · 04/11/2007 23:27

wow I am really impressed and v pleased for her because she really wanted to prove she could do it

PeachesMcScreamWhizzBangFizz · 04/11/2007 23:30

Ah, thats'nowt innit. I was doing 160 miles a week and breastfeeding triplets

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 04/11/2007 23:31

Only triplets? Part-timer

PeachesMcScreamWhizzBangFizz · 04/11/2007 23:33

Sorry, seriously, I think this is some testament to The Supportive Husband. You don't do that kind of thing on your own, do you? There was some reference on the news to sleepless nights.... Can you imagine: "no dear, it's your turn. I did 25 miles again today..."

OP posts:
NorthernLurker · 04/11/2007 23:37

It's interesting because the husband has come in for flack for being a bit of a g*t prevously - very very driven. Baby probably done them both good.

Highlander · 05/11/2007 14:42

I think she only BF until sprog was 3 months. Princess Paula was injured then and not training at full whack.

Looking at her arms and legs makes me feel ill...she is too thin.

Highlander · 05/11/2007 15:06

do ou remember that picture of a turd on eBay? (after she crapped on the street in the London Marathon) 'A Unique Piece of Sporting Memorabillia'

themoon66 · 05/11/2007 16:06

How can she be 'too thin'? She is fitter than any of us I'll bet.

Barcelonababe · 05/11/2007 16:09

So sad to hear how dissapointed she was she didn't do better...she WON! Never liked her!

run run run... what's the point?!

gizmo · 05/11/2007 16:42

I think she runs because she likes it...bit like macrame really, doesn't have to be a point.

TellusMater · 05/11/2007 16:51

I know she is marvellous, an inspiration etc etc etc - but I just can't warm to her. Which I suspect says a lot more about me than it does about her...

gizmo · 05/11/2007 16:59

I dunno, I mean, I've got nothing against her and I'm thrilled that we have a proper world class athlete to support, but I don't understand how she's meant to be an inspiration. She has a freakish natural gift, she does what she loves - why is that going to inspire us? Most people are going to look at her and think: "there's just no way I can do what she does". It's just kind of irrelevant to anyone's decision to take up running/exercise.

PrettyBetty · 05/11/2007 18:04

Don't really understand either the inspiring thing...she just runs, what the fxx? is that inspiring? Guys that run after a ball... gosh, very inspiring... Sport is so overated in our society... is bloody running..

DrNortherner · 05/11/2007 18:08

Well done Paula! what an acheivment.

Bit odd to describe long distance running as a freakish natural gift.

Of course she's going to be lean there is not a ounce of fat on her. She is not skinny she is a honed athlete ffs.

TheQueenOfQuotes · 05/11/2007 18:13

it's inspiring because she's got to the top of her "game" - matters not whether it's sport, brain surgery or care worker - fact is she v good at what she does.

Haven't seen the baby - does anyone have a link to a picture???

And Gizmo - my brother was inspired to take up running after watching several "high profile" runners in the late 1990's, and this was after he used to bunk off PE lessons at school because he was terrible at it.

He's since entered 10 marathons - finished 8 of them (last one he dropped out of - Dublin - was because he pulled his hamstring) and is (apparently - I know nothing of these things) just 20 minutes short of getting a "guaranteed" places for being "good for age" with his speed at the London Marathon
