so common to happen around retirement age isn't it?

a great loss of a thoughtful,erudite man..

I'm so shocked! Just caught the tail end on newsnight and have googled the news.

I loved the psychiatrists chair.

Oh that is sad. My father is a doctor and once had a patient/colleague, I forget which, who had some sort of emotional breakdown in front of my father. She insisted that she would speak to Anthony Clare and no-one else about her problems so in the end, my father had to find out how to contact the great man and rather sheepishly explain the situation to him. Clare was apparently very gracious and agreed to see the woman.

The thing is, when I had periods of being in a low state when I was younger, I used to idly think exactly the same thing: that I could have talked things over with Anthony Clare but no-one else.

So sad that he did not have a long retirement to enjoy.

He was a very interesting and highly intelligent man.

Heard about this. 64 is not old these days is it How sad.

I love radio4 - it's taken quite a hit lately losing some great broadcasters and entertainers

bossybritches · 31/10/2007 14:31

God what a week for losing good people?!

64 is NOT old from where I am! (used to think it was ancient but now......)

What a shock for his family too, but hopefully it was quick for him & not one of those long lingering illness.

claricebeansmum · 31/10/2007 14:35

It was the sound of his beautiful voice that was so...consoling.

Such an intelligent man. Very sad .

I loved listening to him - In the Psychiatrists Chair was one of those programmes where I would find that I had completely stopped what I was doing to listen to him.

I hope BBC release some episodes on podcast.
