Sometimes I get to the end of the weekend and feel that I have spent the whole time busy and trying to pack too much in , or catch up on chorese etc. I feel really stressed about it right now - and woonder if I'm heading towards a nervous breakdown or something! I just want to know if everyone else out there feels the same??

I mean I feel the same as you, not I have had time to chill out and relax (although I am on Mumsnet now which is I suppose relaxation time!)

pixiefish · 17/10/2004 16:34

took dd to the zoo on Saturday (she's only 8 months) so I spose that counts as down time

whizzz · 17/10/2004 16:38

We usually try to do too much & end up pinging about all over the place. The only chill time is when DS is in bed - by which time we are pooped ! This weekend we have stayed in for the majority of the time & done some clearing out. I do feel as though I have had a break - although now going a bit stir crazy !

shortcake · 17/10/2004 17:14

Anyone else?

Had a pretty good weekend. Was at a concert in Manchester (a Brazalian singer called Bebel Gilberto), DS's were at a friends, then went to a Katie Melua concert in Blackpool on Saturday night, (went out for an Italian) - my parents stayed here to look after the DSs, then today have been out with all of them for a carvery Sunday lunch. Had to do ironing this afternoon though and am now on MN. Not a normal weekend at all!

Skate · 17/10/2004 17:39

Been thinking exactly the same as you. Had NO time at all, been rushing from one job to the next and trying to fit in 'quality' time with kids which has just been a bit of colouring, reading books. Ds had swimming lesson yesterday. Just on here for 5 mins before the Lasagne is due out of the oven and my Mum, Dad and dh are entertaining kids at the mo. Tonight once Mum and Dad have gone I've got the mother of all ironing piles and some work to do (work freelance) too . It just never ends.

Mind you, feel like I've achieved stuff as I've bought some extra Xmas pressies, got my crackers (!), done loads of clearing out of cupboards - throwing stuff out and making piles for a boot sale, all before we move house just after Xmas.

A whole day, coz I went to a health spa

tinyganghq · 17/10/2004 21:09

Chill out/relax?? That never seems to happen here especially at weekends when I try to pack in even more 'jobs'. For example, last weekend and this I have been trying to sort out all 3 childrens clothes (and mine) from summer to winter stuff and also what doesn't fit anymore. It's a terrible job - I always end up in complete chaos with clothes everywhere wishing I'd never started it then everyone suddenly wanting dinner or bedtime on top of it all. Why don't I just accept that there are 24 hrs in a day and they are already more than filled up as it is - maybe I wouldn't find myself exhausted, yelling at everyone and getting to Sunday evening wondering where the hell the weekend went. You are not alone shortcake . There was a thread on MN last week I think about how people spend their Sundays - with the best intentions in the world I never get to the family walk on the beach, toasting marshmallows kind of day that I always intend. Something ALWAYS ends up 'having to be done' and I get so p**d off about it all. I want to enjoy my family but everything is such a slog at times. Think this subject has hit a nerve with me

EvesMama · 17/10/2004 21:15

chill what????

oh yeah dp ran after dd ONCE today while we were at party ALL DAY!
hes so good to me

charliecat · 17/10/2004 21:17

Relax? Er the last hour sitting here, apart from that no, theres always a child lingering at my arse wanting something or other.
And at 7pm I had gritted teeth desperate for the kids to vanish to bed, so I let them play in thier bedroom for half an hour just so they were out of my sight!!!!!! Bad Mummy!

tinyganghq · 17/10/2004 21:26

Not a bad mummy Charliecat - well I must be too then. I tried that strategy this morning in the hope of a bit more sleep when they all bounced in at their usual ungodly hour. It worked fine - got a 'bit' of a lie in; then spent the rest of the morning tidying up the unbelivable mess they'd all made. Should've just got up in the first place!

WideWebWitch · 17/10/2004 22:01

I feel like I've had loads of time to relax this weekend: dp took ds to the cinema yesterday so it was just me and my mum and dd (10mos) for most of the afternoon and then we all just lounged around at home before having a takeaway for supper, then dp and I watched a film when the children were in bed. Today it was my turn to lie in til 9am, then we had PILs here so I cooked a roast lunch then we all went for a walk in the woods and then had tea at home, then I had a bath with both children once PILS had gone and since the children went to bed at 8 I've been reading a novel on the sofa with a glass of wine and now I'm here. Bliss!

WideWebWitch · 17/10/2004 22:01

And, amazingly, our house isn't too much of a tip since we've all been tidying up/putting the dishwasher on as we go along.

childmindersam · 17/10/2004 22:02

this weekend has been so busy that i went to bed at 6pm tonite when i put my ds to bed and have just woken up! never seem to get any time to relax!

collision · 17/10/2004 22:06

I have had a lot of time to myself this weekend which has been bliss! Dh looked after ds yesterday morning while I slept and then he cooked lunch and took him out to see the horses in the afternoon while I came on MN!!

Today we didnt get up til 12 as we watched TV in bed and this afternoon we went to a friends house and ds played with her daughter. Lovely weekend.

zaphod · 17/10/2004 22:15

There was a a thread 'Do you do housework at weekends', and every weekend as I am trying to get through all the work, the thought that people DON'T, just drives me crazy.

In answer to the question, I had 10 minutes in the shower, and 40 minutes in the car driving to see my mother in the hospital. Two hours at a friends for dinner this evening. That's it.

At weekends, I promise myself x amount of time on MN if I perform y amount of chores first.

charliecat · 17/10/2004 22:18

Zaphod, I remeber that thread, some people saying they did 10 mins a day and stuff like that OMG IF ONLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
My life is a constant round of housework or doing some shitty job for someone else

Skate · 17/10/2004 23:00

10 mins a day??? My washing/drying/folding extravaganza takes up at least, ooohh, 24 hours of each day!!!

pixel · 17/10/2004 23:02

Skate SNAP!! We're moving just after christmas too and I'm sitting here staring at a great pile of car boot stuff! I've already given some to the jumble and sold some on Amazon and ebay but I'm still in despair at how much junk we have.
