As many of you know, I was very unimpressed with DD's school and borough for issuing a new catering contract which meets the minimum gov't regulations and not actually consulting parents about what they wanted. The school wanted to hand it over to the borough and not worry about it. Meanwhile several other schools in the borough have levely food and I am green with envy. But, hey ho... guess I'll have to pack lunches to have my (admittedly finicky) nutritional standards met.
So I thought it was interesting that lackof consultation with parents is noted as a reason for school dinner decline in this BBC article.
They Head Teacher claims parents were consulted. They sent home a questionaire asking parents if they would be happy with sandwiches rather than hot meals. They asked nothing about organic, freshlly prepared, nutritional content, % processed meat, etc. I met with the HEad Teacher and asked her to send out a questionaire with questions about nutrition. I even handed her a sample questionaire. But, it was never sent out. And I do feel bitter about not being consulted. I think the parents should have had their desires heard.
So, I certainly have found resistance to involving the parents. Have other people found this in their schools?
