Exciting news - bno holders can move to UK. Will this policy be permanent?

Turning 50 soon as a civil servant working for HK government, it would be difficult for me to get a job with similar pay in UK. Tax in UK is super high compared to HK so better to work in HK to save more money as long as I can. So I am looking to move in 10 years time when I am retired. I will probably buy a house somewhere in UK and retire. My concern is, will this policy be amended anytime?

Also if I am not working in the UK and just live for 6 years and become a UK citizen, will I be eligible for public hospital?

@hkukfamily

Policy is likely to be in place unless Chinese-UK relationship change for the better. While it is in place, it doesn't mean the terms and condition would stay the same forever (ie. application fees/ financial funds required). If you look at past UK visa fees, they have always been increasing.

As for public health care, you will have to pay for NHS surcharge along with your BNO visa fee. This grants you access to public health care in the UK. At the moment, it is £400 per year. So for a 5 year visa, it will be £2000. After you have gained ILR after 5 years, you will not be required to pay for the surcharge.

Apparently the Chinese government is considering not allowing a British visa as a travel document.

This won't stop us from coming. Noted we have both hk and bno passport. They are considering banning bno passport.

We can use hk passport to leave hk border. Then use bno passport to enter uk border.
