Shopping should be rationed I agree,(due to some people losing it and panic buying) but not by per customer as some people have bigger families than others. So a single person should get less than a family of 6. Proper rationing per person in a family should be introduced if this crazy buying frenzy continues. Also some might have a medical condition requiring more of say toilet paper if have an Ibd. Or a skin condition like psoriasis or eczema and need hand gel because of open wounds on hands. Gloves not an answer for some. We need proper leadership and this government is not providing it so people are panicking. We need experienced people from all parties to form a crisis government.
Also by us a section of society is taking all family members to the shops even at 6am at Asda and queuing outside, Boots Pound shop and all supermarkets. Which is mental.

Trouble is, how do you prove that shopper A buying 3 packs of pasta is single and shopper B buying 3 packs of pasta has 6 children? Or that shopper 1 has a bowel condition and needs more loo roll than shopper 2? Do we need ration books/cards? The admin and organisation for that is huge. It won’t be quick or cheap.

amispeakingenglish · 18/03/2020 09:30

Forgot... time for key workers to shop too. BTW Lakeland has run out of pasta and bread makers!

It would take time, I can prove it as I have birth certificates! Hard to prove I have Crohns though, but can probably dig up a letter, the ones cosnultants send to gps after an appointment. I suggested Boots have hand gel behind counter for those with open wounds from eczema and psoriasis or dermatitis etc. Visible disabilities sre find but hidden not. Actually dyslexia and dyspraxia are considered disabilities so if someone went to the shop during restricted times they could demand to be let in and if not its against the law...

During the war people had ration books. If people felt safe here, with a good government they wouldn't be panic buying.

Agree with you expensive and long winded to have ration books etc. I don't consider myself at risk, my crohns is pretty dormant waiting for a pretty important op though with a possible life threatening condition, was delayed as surgeon took annual leave before April! On news now, how do I prove I am vulnerable.... gp letter or note from Mum.. LOL..

People should get real and stop behaving like the walking dead. Don't Panic!!

It's going to be tricky. I'm a single parent with one child but I'm shopping for my parents and a neighbour also which is surely preferable as less people in shops and they're all high risk.

Bufferingkisses · 18/03/2020 09:44

You're over thinking it. There are limits. If the limit is not sufficient for your family then you need to shop more often. It's not rocket science. They are not limiting it to the point that you can't feed your family for a day or to however giant your family is or how much extra your health condition means you need. The cost of setting up and administering any other system would be ridiculous. You need more you go more. Problem solved.

Actually dyslexia and dyspraxia are considered disabilities so if someone went to the shop during restricted times they could demand to be let in and if not its against the law... And how do people prove that they have dyslexia or dyspraxia? Lots of dishonest people would be claiming they had these conditions to be let in early and buy up stock before others could get in there. Besides letting someone in a shop early because they have dyslexia or dyspraxia doesn't come under reasonable adjustments does it? I wouldn't say its discrimination in the slightest.

Your idea is completely unpragmatic, sorry. On the other hand, if human beings would simply act with common sense and stop buying up every single thing they can lay their hands on then this would mitigate the need for such measures as special times for elderly and disabled people.

YOU HAVE AN ED PSYCH REPORT stating it. So not possible for dishonest people to claim this.

I was just pointing out that some people could cause problems with this. As it is covered in the Equality Act. It doesn't matter what you would say it was, it is covered so someone could claim discrimination

Your idea is completely unpragmatic, sorry. ITS NOT REALLY MY IDEA AS IT IS NOT PRACTICAL WHICH I THOUGHT I SAID. ??

I DID SAY THE ABOVE....

Where we live it is one section of society mostly that is going out with entire extended families, kids off school, grandparents and buying up entire stocks. One Family had bought ALL the eggs. 2 trolleys piled high with eggs.

The shops are only allowing certain numbers of things like 2 hand wash, even if you are buying yours and for someone else, still only 2 allowed.

Bufferingkisses. You need more you go more. Problem solved.

Some people can't go lots of times to the shops, as they are at work, even if you work from home you have to log on and off, you must be very privileged if you can pop to the shops whenever you want!! Plus lucky. Also by 11 there is nothing much left!!

Yep. Let's just dispense with the government elected in December in an 80 seat majority and get Corbyn to allocate hand sanitisers to each according to his needs. What an inspired idea...

Mlou32, what exactly do you mean? Or do you just through a meaningless comment in to stir things up? I am well informed and think for myself actually.

Bovary X, what a banal shallow comment and why do you think Corbyn is involved? So anyone who criticise Boris must be a raving leftie?? That's a very narrow outlook.

Both of you are being insulting and pointless for no good reason.

Mlou32 You say I'm not 'switched on', yet you didn't know about Ed Psych reports, and I mentioned this as I witnessed just such an argument in Sainsbury today.
