Did anyone listen to this? WE kept our oldest away from TV until he was interested (about 3yrs). However our 2 year old probably does watch about two hours a day on average . That's horrible to admit, but working it out 30-45 minutes of CeeBeeBees before breakfast with my husband before I'm up . 30-45 minutes at lunchtime, Same before bed. Suddenly we're discussing going TV free in the kids areas. What should we do?

Trouble In Tots' TV Land
Friday 31 August
11.00-11.30am BBC RADIO 4

There is trouble brewing in the world of children's television. Some people believe that a ban on junk food advertising has significantly hit children's programme production in the commercial sector. As older kids seem to be increasingly turning away from television in favour of the internet, it appears the industry is searching for new markets.

Many believe that babies and toddlers have become the new target audience for the television and DVD industry, with specialist networks aimed specifically at the under-threes now opening up in Britain and all around the world.

Some scientists, however, are now raising serious concerns that television viewing by very young children could be doing serious harm, causing attention disorders and sleeping problems.

Nick Baker steps into tots' TV land to explore these issues further. Nick talks to parents and challenges both the scientists and the programme-makers who argue their material is good for children.

My 2yo ds watches much more than that! I don't have a problem with Cbeebies at all. It's educational, imo.

That said, for the last few months, he has decided to watch less and less and frequently turns the TV off so that he can play without any distraction.

my 2.7yr DS also watchs tv in the morning while I wash the pots and get ready, sometime when he's woken up from a nap and is still tired but refuses to sleep anymore and also in the evening to calm him down before bed!

However, I also make sure I go out everyday with him and spend lots of one on one time doing crafty stuff, so I try and balance it out, still feel guilty though
