Advertising Standards Authority reject Mumsnetters' complaints about Madeleine McCann advertisement

The ASA think that the advertisement was suitable for a U audience

I'm annoyed at that; I think it is the wrong decision. I think that the use of pictures and the 'story' that a young child was "snatched" WOULD upset young children.

It's very subjective and I know that the ASA is staffed by lots of trendy Londoners who haven't seen young children for years, but I think that it is the wrong decision. Shame.

How disappointing.

I wonder how many mums of young children work in the ASA.

Agree with MP's assessment here.

Very good points legacy. I am prepared to let DS see films at home that I would not take him to see in the cinema.

Well every night upon bedtime my dd who is 5 says to me "I don't want to be kidnapped" and "What if burgalars come"

It makes me fucking sick that every night I have to reassure my baby that she is going to be fine during night and nobody bad is going to get her.

Children should be allowed to be children and not have this rammed down there throat.

Well said MP about moral judgements and the ASA.

My family and I had a lovely holiday in Luz (not at Mark Warner) and 7 year old dd has wonderful memories of the beach.
When we saw this, I looked over at my dd to see if she would become upset, but she did not react at all. I know that she was not just looking without hearing, so I wonder if there will be nightmare repercussions to come.

I had not heard of this debate when we first saw the film, but I did go home and tell dh that it was a bit distressing right before a "fun" film. I think marketing it right before a children's film was inappropriate.

Of course I do feel for the parent's here, but I have to look after the well being of my own as well.

how does the asa know MM was "snatched"? - if they actualy know this as a fact then they should contact the police and tell them their sources.
