would probably be ok, rare as you say, but might investigate reins or something anyway.

hippipotami · 13/08/2007 17:36

It IS rare, I am sure it is rare, but it reminds us all that it can happen when an incident such as this occurs.

Mine are past the pram stage now, and only last night dh and I were discussing when to let him walk to the ice cream parlour at the top of our road on his own. It is 5 doors down and he would not need to cross the road, but what if something happends....

hippipotami · 13/08/2007 17:37

'him' being ds aged nearly 8. It read as if we were discussing when dh could walk to the ice cream parlour. He can, he is old enough... I think..

Jesus thats scary, that poor mum, its never even entered my head that someone would try and take my baby from her carry cot (mine has no straps) i'm glad shes almost ready to move up to the seat unit now!

Hulababy · 13/08/2007 17:54

Posted on other thread. It sounds an awful ordeal. Very scary.

Ripeberry · 13/08/2007 18:30

Good God! Thank goodness the baby was safe and i hope that woman has a black eye now!
Reminds me of when my DD1 was tiny.
I used to go for a walk along a country road and down a side road leading to a posh hotel.
It was only a 2 mile round trip and would only take 1hr in total, but i always picked up stones off the path and keep them handy in case a car stopped and tried to kidnap my baby!
Could have had a bit of "new mummy" paranoia but one day a car did pass by very slowly and the couple in the car were trying to look at my DD1, they did not say a word.
Then they stopped further down the road and waited.
No way! was i going to go past them so i just turned back the way i came and the bas*rds followed me, they came level again and i just let rip with a scream and showed them the biggest rock i had and said if they did not drive on i would smash all their windows and then their heads in.
They soon scarpered, they may have been inoccent but i just did not like the way they were looking at us.
AB
P.S i did not go out for walks for a long time after that, scared me shitless!

fucking hell ripeberry...that's scary (not just you screaming at them with a stone ) what a creepy pair (couple in the car, not you )

MrsBadger · 13/08/2007 18:43

flowerybeanbag, the Dreami does have D-rings (they're probably tucked under the mattress at the moment) so if you wanted you could use a harness.

massivebigpantsface · 13/08/2007 18:46

Ripeberry - thats very scary - its just as well you had mummy paranoia and were ready with your stone!

I would never have considered this to be a risk, although I'm sure it is minimal, but I will certainly be more alert after reading yours and this news story.

when my Mum was trying for me (she ahd several stillbirths, and then lost one to rubella) she has said that Dad kept her in becuase he was scared she'd take a baby and I can understand that, however the way these two worked together is reallys cary! tahnk goodness the Mum fought so well.

massivebigpantsface · 13/08/2007 18:55

thats very sad peachy, (luckily you came along!)
It is dreadful to think what events could drive someone to try taking someones baby.

handlemecarefully · 13/08/2007 19:09

McEdam · 13/08/2007 19:21

Blimey. Good on the mother.

paulaplumpbottom · 13/08/2007 19:23

I think any of us would turn violent in such circumstances. Well done to her.

Frizbe · 13/08/2007 22:28

Very glad this woman managed to fight off these horrible people.

CrookshanksinJimmyChoos · 13/08/2007 22:34

I'm paranoid when out with DS in the buggy about this kind of scenario and DH always said I was being too OTT but after reading something like this....makes you think twice!
