Oh no! How sad.
21 weeks though. I wonder if the floods brought on early labour. How awful.

chopster · 24/07/2007 12:54

poor family.

You are probably right Fio.

Very sad

lurkylou · 24/07/2007 19:34

They all got better treatment because of the floods but still very sad.

When was the last time anyone you know was transported by 2 helicopters to hospital.

SlightlyMadSpider · 24/07/2007 19:38

Unfortunately the babies could not have survived at 21wks if they had been born in hospital.

By the sounds of it there wouldn't have been time to halt labour as it sounds as if the response was quicker than ambulance (although would they have seen a MW earlier if they could have got out of the house?).

It is very sad and probably would have happened anyway....it just has a bit of media attention as a result of the circumstances of the floods.

Having said that I am still very for the family.

oooggs · 24/07/2007 19:53

just been in to check on mine

Practicalpet · 24/07/2007 19:57

How for the family..terrible news.

Pabamella · 24/07/2007 20:00

Is this the same story as the one earlier today? but it hadnt been reported that the babies had died?

jellybeans · 25/07/2007 12:43

Very very sad I went into labour at nearly 21 weeks and was told there was nothing could or would be done and that even if my DD was born alive, they would not assist in any way Once labour has progressed so far, little can be done sadly. I am thinking of the family x

gloslass · 26/07/2007 22:30

I cried as I read about it. 21 weeks is too too tiny but can you believe they took the babies SEPARATELY from the Mum? The only chance they had was 'kangaroo care' outside ICBU. Shouldn't paramedics know about 20+ year old research?

Oh good grief, gloslass, in an emergency they had to winch down and winch up and you think they should have been fretting about kangaroo care??? These were 21 week babies!!! It's amazing they were even able to get them to hospital.

SlightlyMadSpider · 26/07/2007 22:39

Sorry Gloss - I disagree to a certain extent. A baby is not viable at 21wks. A baby 'born' before 24wks is legally a miscarriage.

but the mother could have 'been' with them in their 'dying' moments.

WendyWeber · 26/07/2007 22:41

The helicopter team may not even have kown they were 21-weekers - they probably took the mother while the paramedics were trying to deal with the babies.

How anyone can even think of criticising in these circs is beyond me.
