Working mums get it in the neck again.

I was going to say, if they are quoting Twig, as Hedtwigg, then that is recent, as Whizz has linked.
I don't see how the quotes are related to the food issue.

Brummieontherun - are you sure that the Govn is recommending 50% carbs ? It was always alot lower than that for me.

barbamama · 23/07/2007 16:50

Well I am glad they are already questioning their own interpretation - they clearly do need to take other factors into account.

I know this is anecdotal and subjective but the only people I have ever seen on the street giving their children bottles of coke and packets of crisps have not been the other working mothers I see picking up their children.

Ah MI, snogging probably uses up loads of calories

Oblomov, yep I'm sure about the 50% energy intake from carbs because I checked the guidelines after reading it in an article. I thought it couldn't be true, but it is.

This article is about middle class kids, but it's one of a glut of articles identifying rapidly growing levels of obesity in every age group and social class so it's a pretty irrelevant observation, imo.

Most people in the UK will be eating cereal or bread for breakfast, a sandwich or jacket potato for lunch, then a pasta/rice based meal or pizza for dinner. In fact that might be viewed as being 'healthy'. Not rocket science that 50-60% of the population has weight issues.

brummie - The emphasis on low-fat foods has a lot to answer for. Carbs are not always good for you, and fat isn't always bad.

I think there was a lot to be said for the eggs and bacon English breakfast or kippers for that matter. My mother used to have this thing about getting enough protein - because in WWII it was hard to get etc and I'm sure that was wise.
