We have a flat screen wall mounted takes up LESS room.. no stand etc etc. Also less intrusive in a way.

UnquietDad · 16/07/2007 13:51

Of course, these days, having a computer in the bedroom (for homework etc) you may as well just have a TV in there, because your average teenager will know where to get TV programmes online. Look, if I can find them - here and here - I'm sure they can!

There is no way I would let my kids have a computer with internet access in their room. Kids are always more technologically aware then their parents so it is just to dangerous!

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/07/2007 13:59

mmm, I do secretly think that big tellies are a bit vulgar !

MintyDixCharrington · 16/07/2007 14:00

my 6 year old decided to go onto my computer, logged onto google, wrote "guns" in the search box, went onto image results, and printed out a photo of a very wierd long haired girl with a sub-machine gun. I saw him wandering around the house with this photo, I couldnt' believe it! "I just wanted to look at pictures of guns mummy"

So my laptop is the only one with internet access now, and it is password protected so they can't use it unless I'm sitting BESIDE them!!!

MamaMaiasaura · 16/07/2007 14:05

is 32 inches big?? In tv size obviousl;y

MaryAnnSingleton · 16/07/2007 14:07

Times when I wish the telly was a bit bigger - when trying to watch Hot Fuzz dvd this w/end as it's in wide screen..but apart from that, it does the job. And a burglar wouldn't bother with it.

cylonbabe · 16/07/2007 14:10

ds has been told that he can have a tv in his room when he moves out to go to uni. he has only just turned ten and think s i am being unfair.

Tortington · 16/07/2007 14:13

big tellies are so crass.

our telly always turned off during our meal.

MintyDixCharrington · 16/07/2007 14:22

32" is HUMUNGOUS in my book

FCH · 16/07/2007 14:23

I was listening to this on R4 this morning and it made me laugh because I ended up having this argument with DH a few years ago when we bought our first house together - no TVs in bedrooms - bedroom for sleeping - lounge for TV watching. I did win but I'm not really looking forward to having the same fight over again with a child. (won't be able to deploy the same type of incentive for a start!)

MamaMaiasaura · 16/07/2007 14:23

and opps. I thought it was average

dontwanttogetoutofbed · 16/07/2007 14:32

i had a tv in my room growing up so i know why i'm not inclined to put one in my dds' room - all i ever did was watch tv! benny hill double play and outdated movies all night long, no homework, not sleep, nothing. mind you i managed to read a ton and get lots of excercise regardless.

Tortington · 16/07/2007 14:55

it makes me piss verytime i see super nannyand thy take the telly out of te room o help the id sleep

liKE DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH thickos

MrsSpoon · 16/07/2007 16:18

What I meant was it is more difficult to sit in the livingroom eating and not put the TV on, or perhaps this is because I was brought up in a house where we ate in front of the TV but have tried to instill family meals at the dining table in my own home.

DS1 has a computer in his room but no internet access, however he has discovered playing DVDs on the PC but he usually asks whether it is allowed first and it is never allowed at bed time, bed time is for reading.

electra · 16/07/2007 16:21

My children do not have a television - but we do and they try to come in to watch it.

Budababe · 16/07/2007 16:39

No TV in DS's room here - and won't be. There is a small portable just with a DVD player in ours that we never use but if he is ever ill enough to be in bed he can go in ours and watch that.

We do have a PS2 - I bought it for DH when DS was 3 and of course DS uses it the most. Was very strict on how long it was used for at first (bought a timer and limited to 30 mins) but find he naturally limits himself now. Although today he was on it far longer as it is down in basement which is coolest room in house and was far to hot to be outside.

My only concern now is that my 8yr old nephew is playing PS games for 18 and over and of course DS wants to when we visit and I had to ban him from his cousin's bedroom as I couldn't be sure what they were up to.

cornsilk · 16/07/2007 16:54

My ds's spend most of their time on nintendo ds - tv always off by 6 - not that bothered about it really. They will only get a TV in their rooms if they pay for it by themselves!
I love TV tho'. I must be very common.

2spells · 16/07/2007 18:08

ds and dd have tv's in their rooms........

pagwatch · 16/07/2007 18:46

DS2 has a tv as it is a tv/video combi and he still has a collection of much loved videos. But he does not watch it often and certainly not at bedtime.
DS1 has a game cube in his room but he seldom plays it on his own, mostly when his friends come over. And we now have a wii which is in our tv room (ooh swipe me !) and is GREAT !
Yes sad sad woman I am - it is such fun. Except I played the boxing game with DS and found myself a little concerned at the joy I felt at beating the living crap out of him. Seriously worrying. I tried to punch him when he was down !!![embarrassed].
(.....Don't go to the dark place. Don't go to the dark place.....)
We try to do as much as we can together DS2 is ASD and can slope off alone too much if left to his own devices. So meals together as often as poss and games and stuff whenever we can.

pagwatch · 16/07/2007 18:47

ooop

2spells · 16/07/2007 18:56
