No. Despite liking most of Ken's policies on the whole, I would welcome a proper, credible challenger next time - if only to prove to sceptics that Ken really is, at present, the best person for the job.
I think it is very unwise of the Tories to field a comedy candidate yet again. It is well known they don't really buy into the idea of a Mayor for London or an elected London Assembly, and their contempt for the concept does them no credit at all. They did of course dismantle ILEA and the GLC, and flog County Hall off to foreign investors.

No, I will not be voting for Boris Johnson. For Marina's reasons, because i wouldn't vote for any Tory, because I wouldn't vote for BJ as anything other than presenter of some sort of lightish-weight tv programme or 'shag me I work for the Spectator' reality gameshow - or perhaps a Gillian McKeith style hairdressing show.

Ken is a bit barmy at times, but he really cares about London and deals with it both as Capital city / Globalised Metropolis and financial engine of the country (yes, amongst others...) but also as a local place for local residents. The Fares fair policies, the Thames days etc. Credible challenge is always good, though.

Well, I think he'd make an excellent mayor.

I just think it's hilarious and like DullWitch, I'm looking forward to his campaign no end. Trouble is, I really don't know what he's ever DONE as an MP. I just know him as that daft bloke from HIGNFY, and the one who can't keep his sausage in his pants. I read this morning that the Tories had had trouble coming up with a heavy-weight opponent to Ken Livingstone ... but surely they don't think they've found it in Boris?!

I'd like to think that in order to become an MP, he is reasonably intelligent and has proved himself in some way ... but then I look at other MPs and think that perhaps you don't require integrity and intelligence to be one.

I think Boris as a candidate demonstrates the contempt in which the Tories regard the electorate and London residents by not fielding a serious candidate.

I'd vote for Ken anyway but hate to see Boris getting any more attention than he already does, the self publicising, can't keep it zipped, lightweight twit.
