hmmmmmmm

LittleLupin · 14/07/2007 10:32

Was your specific complaint about the word "snatched" then? I lost the will to live reading those threads but I got the impression that people would have been happy for a suitably worded advert to be shown in U films, rather than the blanket ban.

Why they just didnt use their loaves in the first place and show them at films 15 and above maybe, then there wouldnt have been all this fuss.

Jacanne · 14/07/2007 10:47

I think some people didn't want it shown at all in U films because they hadn't told their children anything about it; others objected to the "snatched from her bed" part because they had told a watered down version that didn't contain that bit of info.

LittleLupin · 14/07/2007 10:48

Maybe just a picture of her face would have sufficed - there can't be an adult in this country who doesn't know who she is.

Leati · 14/07/2007 10:50

That thread was what originally attracted me to this website. I think most of the mothers ended up agreeing that it probably would have been acceptable if they had toned it down some. They felt that it could be interpreted as scary to their children. I think one mother said her daughter was afraid to sleep in her own bed.

Here in the US, it wouldn't have been a big deal. But there is more of an awareness amongst kids about kidnappings.

Gobbledigook · 14/07/2007 10:51

I vote for no advert at all. Absolutely no point in it being shown in the cinema whatsoever. Nada.

Miaou · 14/07/2007 11:20

Hmm, interesting response. Will keep an eye out for further developments on this, thanks cod.

madamez · 14/07/2007 11:56

I'm with GObbledegook. NO ad. COmpletely pointless.

WideWebWitch · 14/07/2007 11:58

I got the same letter.

Do people seriously think this child is still alive?

I thought that Madeleine's face was plastered all over airports & foreign holiday sites.

I have just came back from Paris & was in 3 different airports during the past 2 weeks & saw no posters.

We saw no evidence of her disappearance at all in France. It wasn't in any newspaper or magazine.

At one stage we were actually convinced they had found her as there was no mention at all.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with this thread, it just reminded me.

hana · 14/07/2007 14:11

there are 3 posters on my local highstreet
think that is bit odd

IsabelWatchingItRainInMacondo · 14/07/2007 14:13

Another vote for no add here.

Pointless for U movies, if needed to be shown probably for 15 upwards. The Madeleine issue is a message for the adults not the children anyway.

Although some mums may scare their children off to avoid them running away in supermarkets, not to go into isolated areas, talk to strangers, etc. the only message here for a child is that even when they are sleeping they are in danger. Which would be, obviously, an exageration.

nutcracker · 14/07/2007 14:16

Another vote for no ad at all, it's just not appropriate.

HelenLoveJoyOfSpringfield · 14/07/2007 14:18

Anyone who would use it to scare their own children are sick IMHO.

nappyaddict · 14/07/2007 14:57

i haven't got a problem with the ad but would prefer it to say something like help find madeleine mccann and also an explanation that it is very rare.

kookaburra · 16/07/2007 17:37

I objected to the word 'snatched in her sleep' rather than the ad itself, which tho' pointless would otherwise be harmless. The 'snatched in her sleep/from her bed' mythology has gained currency however - newspapers routinely use that expression now, so the McCann spin machine has succeeded in drawing attention away from the more likely scenario of her wandering out to look for them.

BellaLasagne · 16/07/2007 19:37

Re. France - I bought my 2 DCs back from Disneyland Paris during May half term and it took forever to get through passport control at Lille station for Eurostar because they were asking every adult to positively ID all children with them and tell them who they were. They had posters of Madeleine all over the control booth.

Carnoodleusfudge · 16/07/2007 19:40

Bella - some customs will ask you to ID your children. I have been asked DOB for both of them in various countries and before MM

Best was when customs in US asked DD (4)whether we were her parents and she said No - LOL
