Can't be happy enough about this. I hope the whole business follows suit, and that they take their repugnant odour them.

If you don't like Lush's social media you're free not to follow them!

You might get more responses if you explain your overreaction to this news. Personally I appreciated their campaign for a public inquiry into the abuses carried out by undercover officers. I've also found our local branch to be very supportive of community issues, they send generous donations (yes, of smelly stuff) and their staff actively participate in charity events in work time.

I might pop in later!

I don't do social media at all, and think it's a scourge, so this make me feel more positively towards Lush.

Their appallingly misleading spycop campaign was the peak for me. They climbed on a very old band wagon for their own gain, pretending to support victims when they actually didn't even inform them of their 'support'. And more recently, using an animals sanctuary's work as the content of a film they produced, with no credit given to the sanctuary, after refusing them a grant. Lush have no ethics whatsoever, they just exploit any good cause for publicity.

I think it’s weird to say they don’t have any ethics. Surely what you mean to say is that their ethics don’t mirror yours?

PristineCondition · 10/04/2019 10:20

They say this isn't the end just the start of something new.
It's clear there got something up their sleeve.
Social media has taken over but more and more are tired of it. Perhaps it will focus on actual customers within their website.

The article mentions Wetherspoons have done the same- as have other brands, it's done them no harm

PristineCondition · 10/04/2019 10:22

And of course here we are all talking about it, free publicity

The OP is saying that Lush's actions aren't driven by ethical considerations at all, they are driven by a desire for profit. That the image Lush tries to portray of being concerned about particular ethical issues is based entirely on a desire to exploit other people's ethical values. That they are quite happy to promote a value in one way while undermining it in another providing it increases their bottom line. That's not the same as them simply having "different" ethics, it is a lack of ethics.

Perfectly put @BoomBoomsCousin

I disagree. They use fairtrade products, they won’t buy ingredients that have anything to do with child labour, they campaign against animal cruelty, they are committed to environmental issues. Compared to most night street shops they try very hard to be as ethical as they can be. The undercover police campaign was ill-judged but otherwise they are commendable.

Shmithecat2 · 11/04/2019 07:28

Bowchicawowow, they lied about being palm free in 2009... not so kind the the orangutans.
