Maybe people just don't want to change.

I read somewhere yesterday that they didn't feel the decline in the uptake of school dinners was anything to do with Jamie, must find the article.

I know they 'seem' cheap and they are really, but when you have 3 kids and they all want to eat school dinners full time its bloody expenisve! i dont think it has anything to do with twat boy

we sampled the ones this week at dd1's school

fab, lots of variety, cooked on the premises and organic (not that I care)

BUT she is a fussy little madam so will be on packed lunch

McDreamy · 12/07/2007 15:35

Bloody hell - that is expensive!

PhoenixSongbird · 12/07/2007 15:37

Am I right in assuming uptake has fallen because everyone now knows how crap school dinners are, rather than not liking JO?s healthy food?

FioFioJane · 12/07/2007 15:39

I have one who will only eat school dinners which is fine but ds has to have them only occassionally else i would be bankrupt

i give the twins £1.50 per day.

they can't get a lot with that - and they despise jamie oliver as he has outlawed cheap yet filling shit like sausage roll - with a healthy sandwich - they have nothing - NOTHING left for a drink.

i could give them more - but i'm tight.

used to be 3 kids at 1.50 - as cod says that adds up to 4.50 per day £22.5 per week.

they could make their own sandwiches of course - but thats SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO uncool

FioFioJane · 12/07/2007 15:51

the media are dicks arent they? it just goes to show they dont look at anything ina normal perspective at all

In France they cost less than a euro per 3 or 4 course meal - and this includes brie and all kinds of lovely french food.

I can cook at home for les than £2 per head

bundle · 12/07/2007 15:54

no packed lunch in our house, i give them no choice

meandmyflyingmachine · 12/07/2007 15:54

Do you factor in the cost of your labour doing so?

FioFioJane · 12/07/2007 15:55

its fair enough they have to charge £1.85-£2 a meal because they have to employ staff BUT that is still alot of money when you ahve more than one child

subsidising is a good idea

DS has them because as a working mother (well 3 days a week) I think I am better off paying out the £7.75/week than I would be making him a packed lunch every night. Also on Tuesday (swimming lesson at 5.30) and Wednesday (football practice at 6) he only has a sandwich for tea so needs a proper dinner at midday IMO.

And for some bizarre reason I detest making sandwiches. If I have a hoarde of children around at a lunchtime in the holidays I am far more likely to give them tuna pasta or something.
