Paedophiles "hiding in plain sight" on YouTube

Just read this article on Wired.

Scores of YouTube videos with tens of millions of views are being inundated with comments by paedophiles, with adverts from major brands running alongside the disturbing content

YouTube have said they have processes in place, but it looks like this has been a known issue for a while

I've seen the odd weird comment myself on some videos and thought "That's extremely dodgy"

What this boils down to is Youtube allowing people to upload video of children...or children to upload video of themselves with no vetting or checks.

I think they need to put a blanket ban on vids with under 18s in them. People might complain that they have a right to share the videos which they've taken of their child...but they can do that privately with family. No need at all for there to be an unregulated place in which people can watch children perform.

Yes, I also can't understand how come they don't block the video straight away but then how strange that in Germany the police lost nearly all the evidence against the paedophiles. You couldn't make it up.

So no video with under 18s anywhere ever? Or are you just singling out YouTube?

If you can see it on YouTube why is that different from the BBC iPlayer?

Blocking upload of videos of under 18s is virtually impossible unless you banned all uploads of people.

Taylornats professionally produced videos are different because they're properly regulated and managed.

It's not impossible to regulate a site like Youtube for content added of under 18s at all. Algorithms which detect typical words and phrases used would narrow them down....some might slip through but even then, the report button would be quite useful.
