Mum kicked off bus because of crying child.

Did anyone see this on GMTV this morning?
A mum with 6 bags of shopping, 2yr old twins and an older child (not sure of age) were told to get off the bus as one of the twins was crying. Apparently the bus driver stopped the bus and told them to get off as he had had a gut full of her kids!
Now, I'm sure the 2yo was just playing up like any 2yo but is this fair, I mean the poor mum, it's not like she wanted this to happen. Luckily she was only a short walk from home but I'm horrified by this. When she rang the bus station they backed the action of the driver, apparently they can ask anyone to leave if they are being a distraction, well, how many bus drivers have you seen talking to people they know with only one eye on the road!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, felt really strongly about this so thought I'd post and see what others thought.

What about the other passengers - did they just hide behind their newspapers? I can't understand why no-one stood up for her, poor woman

And they wonder why people avoid public transport like the plague??? It sounds as though this poor woman was an easy target for the driver.

That is so appalling; the poor woman. She must have felt mortified. Such a shame no one stood up for her - nbut II guess that too is a sign of the times (as our grandad would say). That has made me feel really cross on her behalf.

Perhaps a good way to protest about this is next time you see a bus driver talking on his mobile phone, tell them that what they are doing is illegal and report them. They are endangering lives more than this child was!

MeanBean · 07/09/2004 22:24

But Bozzy - they'd throw you off the bus!!!

At last reasonable people!!! I have got so angry about a thread on this subject on another website. There were only 2 of us saying it was wrong. The rest (presumably they all have perfect kids) were saying that it wasn't fair on the driver and that it would be a good punishment for them to walk home.

How a 2 year old can be punished for being upset is beyond me. They all thought this was reasonable and completely dismissed my thoughts on safety, how far they had to walk etc.

god thats disgusting!!
reminds me of when i was catching the bus home from work a few weeks ago, there was a young girl ( about 20/21) sat on the bus, heavily pregnant, with a toddler girl in a pushchair. the little girl was really screaming and crying, like a real raw scream. a man ( of course ) tutted and went upstairs , followed about 5 mins later by another man ( surprise surprie) the screaming continued for about 20 mins non stop during which timei had heard the mother say to another passenger "its not her fault, she has behavioural problems and when she is tired is too scared to go to sleep" hence the reason for the screaming , she finally fell asleep and i felt so sorry for her mother as she said to someone "this is what its like every night in my house but nobody understands" i felt like crying for her, she looked so stressed out and tired and was obviously very run down from the child and her pregnancy no doubt.
there was a young girl sat at the back of the bus chatting on her mobile to someone and myself and another female ( one who if met in a dark alley would put the fear of god into me ) heard her say to her friend " hear that child?.. if it was mine id give it a slap" so up jumps scary female and she shouts " dont jump to conclusions, you want to know what the whole story is before you pass judgemnent, if anybody is due a slap its you and if i hear anymore from you ill be the one to do it!"
the pregnant girl and toddler got off at the next stop as she was waiting for the bus to stop she said to the driver " im so sorry about that" and he said " i have five children of my own, i have more peace driving a double decker around birmingham than i do at home so dont you worry about me, if the other people on the bus dont like it then they are more then welcome to get off and wait for the one behind" how sweet- that other bus driver should take a leaf out of his book.

This is local to me, and I read about it in the paper last week. here is a link to the story.

It doesn't surprise me that this happened, although obviously disgusts me. I was on a local bus today (different company), and the driver was shouting abuse out of his window at someone driving a car who had annoyed him. I've been on many buses where the driver is smoking, and they seem to take pleasure in braking sharply just before arriving at a bus stop. Maybe they have a competition to see who can send the most people flying.

I had to laugh at him saying "I've had a gutsful", though. Such a Newport saying.
