To feel let down by Jeremy Corbyn

I honestly don't know if I can vote Labour again, having never voted for anyone else.

Jeremy Corbyn is putting his own desire for power ahead of the needs of the country. What a disgrace he is. I actually believe in loads of his policies, but WHAT is the point in him as leader of the opposition? Literally his only suggestion is to have a general election. He has shown hinself to be all about his own career advancement, just like the others.

It actually makes me warm to Theresa May who I believe it trying her best to find a solution to Brexit.

Gina Miller says it better than I do www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/nov/26/letter-jeremy-corbyn-peoples-vote-brexit-labour-gina-miller

At least May is trying to make the best of a bad situation she didn’t precipitate. Corbyn is just a fool and so far out of his depth it’s laughable.

A580Hojas · 05/12/2018 12:25

I feel completely let down by the Labour party over their stance on the GRA. I really don't know how to vote now. Also disappointed that Corbyn supports Brexit. It's a huge shame because otherwise I really like him!

user8905 · 05/12/2018 12:26

Remember that The Guardian have a pathological hatred of Corbyn.

He has to play the long game with Brexit as many Labour voters in marginal seats voted to leave due to immigration hitting low wages jobs. Hopefully we will eventually see a second referendum after a lot of political pain.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 05/12/2018 12:27

I don't feel let down by Corbyn because I never believed he was all that in the first instance.

KissedByFire · 06/12/2018 09:23

I'm always sceptical when an old white man feels he has to lead social and political change, instead of being an ally doing the grunt work.

There are plenty of female Labour MPs, it's about time they were given a chance to lead a truly radical movement.

endofthelinefinally · 06/12/2018 10:46

I wish the women in the labour party could step up. They have been sidelined.

lucydogz · 06/12/2018 17:54

There's plenty of (useless) women on Labour's front bench. And plenty of awful women Labour MPs. It's just the they're, well, awful.

Branleuse · 06/12/2018 17:57

I think Jeremy corbyn is MUCH better than theresa may, but hes a complete let down over the GRA and over brexit

billysboy · 06/12/2018 18:00

he better than Dianne Abbot

Badbadbunny · 06/12/2018 20:03

There's plenty of (useless) women on Labour's front bench. And plenty of awful women Labour MPs. It's just the they're, well, awful.

That's the inevitable consequence of people voting for someone just because they're a woman. The all-women shortlists loved by Labour doesn't help either.

lucydo · 06/12/2018 20:17

I agree badbunny

Madmarchpear · 06/12/2018 20:22

I agree. The impotent Brexit stance, a dude as a champion for women, woeful attempts at challenging the tories at pmq's. I so wanted him to be a force for good but he's really quite weak and one dimensional.

Rosalise · 06/12/2018 21:13

I agree with almost everything everyone had said. I don't know how I can vote for Labour but I don't feel like I can vote for anyone else. I feel like all the hope and energy I used to have for a better future for every one of us has just withered away and I'm obsolete and cast aside. I feel like my children's future has been jeopardised and the party I trusted in is laughing in my face.

Badbadbunny · 07/12/2018 10:38

Corbyn is only the leader because no one else wants the poisoned chalice of Brexit at the moment. Once we either leave or we stay, there'll be movement in all 3 parties from better quality MPs wanting to be leader. At the moment, no one else wants the job which is why we have May, Corbyn and Cable - 3 leaders who really aren't up to the job.

lucydo · 07/12/2018 11:06

Corbyn is kept in power because he has a very strong following from people who joined/rejoined the LP when he became leader - LP activists. As a partner of someone involved in the party, you can see this on the ground. They will not stop endorsing JC until he fails dramatically at the next GC. Of course, this might not happen, but the problem with activists is that they don't see outside their own bubble. They don't realise that the UK is not a country that will support a Far Left party. IMO.
Then, and only then, the LP will have to reassess itself.
The Labour front bench is a crowd of imbeciles because they are all appointed ideologically - i.e. for their loyalty to JC. The brains in the LP stand no chance of any advancement under JC. Partly because most of them were involved in the attempted coup against him and are now relegated to a virtual Siberia.
So no, Brexit won't make any difference, but a General Election will.

Sethis · 07/12/2018 11:33

JC took a hammering when he was elected. He faced so much backstabbing and bile from within his own party Labour basically gifted the last election to the Tories. If they'd just said "Oh well, JC is leader now, let's get behind him and give him the benefit of the doubt for a year or so" then we could be under a Labour government right now. Instead, we had mass shadow cabinet firings, votes of no confidence, and Labour party politicians publicly ragging on their own party leader for the better part of two years.

He then took even further flak when he decided he had had enough of this shit, and consolidated his power by firing every fucker who was trying to stab him in the back and putting in place people who would actually support him. Apparently this was a "purge" rather than "common fucking sense" according to the newspapers. You can't run the second largest party in the country with every MP with delusions of grandeur trying to unseat you - witness the Tories and May being completely unable to sack people like Hunt due to her own wobbly power base.

So great, JC, you took the flak, you survived, you gained control of the party, and dragged it kicking and screaming into shape so that it actually presents something resembling a unified whole, inasmuch as possible. Big props for that, you have my respect for managing to deal with everything that was thrown at you.

And then you did.... what?

Fucking nothing.

No meaningful opposition to anything the Tories have done. No opposition to Brexit. No answers of your own. No public speeches about your alternative plan. You've got your own personal beef with the EU which means you're okay with Brexit going through, despite the huge and catastrophic damage it will inflict on this country. Not only that, but the damage it will inflict on our poorest citizens. The people the Labour party are supposed to stand up for. You're so focused on winning the next election you're willing to let the most destructive event of this century, the worst thing to happen since WW2 go utterly unchallenged.

And for that I have nothing but contempt for you, JC. You're throwing out policies that would be difficult to fund even under the status quo (however praiseworthy they are) while ignoring the fact that Brexit is going to fuck the economy so completely we're going to have to endure another 10 years of Austerity, which is already killing our people. Police cuts are killing young people in London. Social care cuts are killing the elderly. Mental health cuts are killing the vulnerable and abused. NHS cuts are killing sick people of all ages. What part of Brexit is going to solve this? How does destroying our biggest trading relationship get us more money to deal with these problems?

It doesn't. But you want to chase your personal grudge against the EU and win the next election, rather than help the people who need it most. I expected it from the Tories. I didn't expect it from you.

Talkinpeece · 07/12/2018 21:35

Corbyn has always been pro Brexit
Corbyn has been a serial protester against his own party
Corbyn has never had any of his theories challenged
Corbyn has never had any interest in economics or business
he is entirely unsuited to lead a party
he is even more unsuited to lead a country

we need Electoral reform to get rid of FPTP

squirrelslikenuts · 07/12/2018 22:57

Sethis
Hear hear!
You have summed up my sentiments.

I am just so disappointed in Corbyn - I had hoped he would be wiser & learnt from other people's mistakes, having been in Parliament for so long. But, it looks like he's learnt nothing - to be a team leader you have to bring everyone even the naysayers with you - and work together to a common goal for the benefit of all not just your cheerleaders.
So who will we turn to; I feel like we should banish them all (& ban them from being in any political roles ever again) & start all over again.

Badbadbunny · 08/12/2018 12:20

I feel like we should banish them all (& ban them from being in any political roles ever again) & start all over again.

I'd apply that to all political parties too. Get rid of "labour", "conservatives", and "libdems" and let's have some new parties from scratch. There's too much baggage - too many people who vote out of habit & misguided loyalty rather than doing any critical thinking and research. Something has to change in politics - the 3 main parties have collectively lost the plot and aren't fit to govern.

lucydo · 08/12/2018 13:22

what has changed in politics is the arrival of Social Media. Anybody who takes a stand, can have their past dragged up to confound them, as though people never changed their opinions on things. Why would anybody go into politics now?
