God some people are low

SoupDragon · 20/06/2007 18:27

Not nice but no worse than anyone else having their wallet/purse/bag stolen.

Wisteria · 20/06/2007 18:31

Well a bit worse maybe? After all he's got more than most on his plate; horrid for anyone though. Just hope he can get copies of photos... To be fair the thief probably didn't realise who he was at the time, not that that excuses it in any way.

Hulababy · 20/06/2007 18:41

I don't know. I think it is worse in some ways. I had my purse stolen, with a picture of DD in. But at least mine was replaceable - I could take another one. So the emotions attached to that asppect were less IYSWIM.

dinny · 20/06/2007 18:43

yes, it is worse than someone else having their wallet stolen -

a those pictures are so much more precious as they are probably not ever going to be able to take her picture again

b with all they have got on their plate, it's the last sodding thing they need

SoupDragon · 20/06/2007 19:21

It's a cr*ppy thing to happen but no, don't believe it's any worse than anyone having a purse stolen with photos in. I had my bag stolen with undeveloped films of DS2s first Christmas, can't go back and take those again either. I don't believe that many photos of a child born in the digital age are irreplaceable photos.

SoupDragon · 20/06/2007 19:23

"Unfortunately shortly after arriving in London I had my wallet stolen which meant I was running late."

He doesn't sound overly bothered about it either.

Mine was definitely stolen, although I knew nothing about it happenening at the time they were taken. I think you generally do know if they are stolen, rather than just lost. For example, I lost my handbag and watch - can't remember doing it but think I left them in a taxi. However, my digital camera was stolen/pick pocketed out of my top coat pocket. Didn't feel them doing it, but everything pointed to stolen. Similarly when my purse was taken, my pram bag was open - it had definitely been closed previously.

Wolfgirl · 20/06/2007 22:14

"He doesn't sound overly bothered about it either" - soupy - I think the McCanns have show very little emotion to the public. However, this does not mean that they are not suffering, or do not feel. I suspect that GM is the type of guy that stays very very focussed. He was on a mission to accomplish something, and whilst it was upsetting he just moved on. Also, his style of writing imo, can come across as matter of fact - again offering us little emotion.

It would be very easy to judge and accuse a person or even dislike a person, because of the way in which they cope, or display themselves. Its true, they do come across as 'unruffled' possibly 'cold' even, but I would sooooooooo NOT want to be in their shoes, and we have no idea of the pain they suffer behind closed doors. Lets give them a bit of slack eh? poor buggers. xx

dinny · 20/06/2007 22:16

well posted, WG

there seems to be resentment bubbling under some posts re the McCanns, God knows why.

paulaplumpbottom · 20/06/2007 22:29

Poor guy

SoupDragon · 21/06/2007 10:58

IIRC nowhere on his blog does he appeal for the photos to be returned. In fact, I don't think he even mentions them does he?

I have no resentment whatsoever towards the McCanns. I am not accusing them of anything or judging them for how they cope.

He had his wallet stolen. It's a shame, it's horrible but its no worse than Mr Smith of Banstead having his wallet stolen containing old pictures of his children.

LaBoheme · 21/06/2007 11:05

Mr Smith of Banstead may be able to go home and cuddle his child and take a million other photos of them. The McCanns are in the depths of despair and something "small" like this may tip them over the edge. Poor people.

blueshoes · 21/06/2007 14:04

If the photos were returned, once the thief realised the owner, it would help to restore my faith in the general goodness of people. But somehow ....

Still praying for the safe and speedy return of Madeleine.

MummyPenguin · 21/06/2007 22:24

I read about this in my paper this morning. It's a real blow to them, however, I did think that the thief, although was wrong to be stealing anyway, probably didn't realise who Gerry McCann was, as according to the report, the wallet was taken out of his back pocket, so the thief would have approached him from behind. Also, I did think it was somewhat naieve (sp?) of GM to be walking around London with his wallet in his back pocket, especially in a rail station, those places are rife for pickpockets.

I hope once the person responsible realises who's it is, given the photos, he will at least return it anonymously to a police station.
