Frank Field Resignation

My support for Labour has declined in recent years but I've always had a deep respect for Frank Field. He's always been a great local MP and a Labour party stalwart. If the party to which he's dedicated himself for so long has lost his confidence, it doesn't bode well. Very sad that it's come to this.

Or at least convince me that you are not AS

Havabiscuit · 03/09/2018 00:56

So you think Labour is anti Semitic on the basis of no evidence and that’s ok?

Do the Conservatives have to prove they are not anti- Semitic. Are you worried by racism in any of the other parties?

Havabiscuit · 03/09/2018 01:00

It’s no good BMW basing your vote on a mud slinging smear campaign. Look behind the headlines and there is very little substance to many of the main allegations.

BMW6 · 03/09/2018 01:09

I have seen no accusation of AS against the Tories. I would oppose it equally if there were.
There is plenty of evidence against Labour! From LP members! FFS how much more do you need?

I know you are going to counter with "But it's all MSM lies". However, if it were that easy then Tories and Libdems would have suffered the same fate by their opponents. The Guardian at least would have been all over it. And yet - not. Wake up. The problem is internal, not external.

I am concerned about racism in every party, whoever.

Havabiscuit · 03/09/2018 01:20

I am not in denial. Racism should be countered wherever it’s seen. However it’s not a huge issue in the Labour Party which, by its nature, is inclusive and tolerant.
There is a problem of old Blairite centre politicians but tbh they had a stab at getting into power a couple of times and failed. The membership has moved labour to the left and this terrifies the establishment, they have found the stick of anti semitism but although it resonates in political circles I don’t think it does with the wider electorate.
Is antisemitism in the Labour Party really a bigger problem than the looming issues over Brexit, continuing austerity, a failing NHS? I don’t think so but the rows certainly keep them from the from pages.

Gushpanka · 03/09/2018 05:56

The LP used to be tolerant and inclusive, it's not now. For the many and not the Jew.

The fact that you call it a "problem", minimise it, demand evidence even though it's all out there, engage jn what abouterry, blame the msm wih some conspiracy against Corbyn and then say 'well, we have bigger things to worry about '.

I'd bet my bottom dollar if it were any other minority you wouldn't do this.

An editorial in the Observer this weekend (or are they in on the plot?)

Going back to FF, which is what this thread is about, he is a very well respected politician within Westminster. He is not a Tory. He works well cross party. Despite popular opinion this is progressive and essential when getting on with the day to day stuff that doesn't make the news. Most decent politicians will be like this on all sides. The Labour Party has moved swiftly and wildly to the left. There will be consequences of this and it needs to rely on its conviction to keep attracting mainstream voters.

Gushpanka · 03/09/2018 06:57

Frank Field resigned BECAUSE of the anti semitism in the labour party.

cdtaylornats · 03/09/2018 11:58

The membership has moved labour to the left and this terrifies the establishment

It doesn't horrify anyone other than the democrats who understand the need for a potentially electable opposition.

I have seen no accusation of AS against the Tories.

Maybe because it's simply assumed ?

Gushpanka · 03/09/2018 12:35

The Tories have their own issues but anti semitism isn't one of them.

They may have individuals with anti semitic views but they haven't created a culture where expressing those views is acceptable and, indeed, where their leader lives those ideals. Unlike Labour.

Justanotherlurker · 03/09/2018 16:05

He voted with the Tories on a key vote that they could have lost - it might even have brought down the government. I think he jumped before he was pushed.

I presume you're talking about the Brexit amendment. When asked about siding with Brexit votes both presently and historically over the last 39 years this was what he had to say about it:

I always voted to free our country from the tightening stranglehold of the EU.

For most, if not all, of those votes I did so alongside Jeremy Corbyn and John McDonnell.

Havabiscuit · 04/09/2018 02:26

Look open your eyes and think about the coverage Corbyn has had since he became leader.
He didn’t sing the national anthem properly, he was photographed with the IRA, he betrayed Britain by spying for the Czechs, on and on.
These attacks are part of a pattern.

Gushpanka · 04/09/2018 07:03

Not forgetting:

Corbyn's membership in Deir Yassin Remembered- run by a holocaust denier and so anti semitic that some Palestinian groups cut links

Calling Hamas and Hezbollah his friends

His comments on the removal of the clearly anti semitic mural

His invitation to Raed Salah - an open anti Semite

His lukewarm reaction to ken livingstone and his Hitler comments

His laying of the wreath at a grave of a terrorist who murdered israeli athletes at the Munich olympics

The rewording, by labour under his leadership, of the ihra definition of anti semitism (because that's the best way to deal with charges of as - change the definition!!)

His comments about english 'Zionists' (what is a zionist other than someone who believes in the self determination of the Jewish people?) not being quite English enough.

There's more. This is just what i remember off the top of my head.

But all just a smear campaign, eh?

I've voted labour in the past and would vote for them again if they change and go back to their proud roots - but never ever under Corbyn.

Notquiteagandt · 04/09/2018 07:11

@Havabiscuit Jo Bird is from Wirral South constituency not a liverpool one.

She also in the past has spoken about her Jewish grandfather. Now refering to herself as Jewish.

As much as I like Jo. I really do not think she is a fair example to use in the anti seminism row.
