Martin Shkreli, dubbed 'Americas most hated man' by BBC news was sentenced to 7 years in jail in 2016 for fraud. He is widely known for raising the price of a life saving AIDs drug from $13.50 to $750 per pill, overnight.

It has just come to light that the Valeant Pharmaceuticals have been quietly working behind the scene to appeal Shkreli's sentence and have invested millions in legal fees.

Shkreli could be now released in a matter of months.

OP you are on the wrong thread this is the Books forum. Also it is perhaps worth considering that the notion of the most hated man is a use of hyperbole in an attempt to increase the 'newsworthiness' of the account, it is not a fact. Most Americans I know are rather more likely to name Donald Trump as worthy of this title. In addition the point of a justice system is supposed to be in part rehabilitation, if objective bodies deem this to be the case for an individual then so be it. The issue re: funding is a wider issue of the way in which justice systems that are predicated on the defendant's wealth or ability to pay for advocates as a potentially deciding factor in the fairness of their treatment replicate wider social inequalities. Looking at isolated cases without a rationale for why one should be more open to analysis than another is unhelpful and biased. If you want to be outraged about something try being outraged by the appalling conditions experienced by inmates in the US and other prison systems
