...or in fact 'Missing People' as the charity is being renamed as from today.

This charity has been a massive help to 2 people that I know and to countless others going through the nightmare of someone going missing.

Article here. You may or may not agree with some of the sentiments within it (at this point let me disassociate myself from any opinions within it completely, I have taken the nork pledge) but I think the charity certainly deserves a plug and the article gives some useful info on what the charity does and the scale of the problem they're facing.

It's great that is being publicised.

I feel for the parents of all the other missing children whose disappearance is considered not as news-worthy as other recent events.

and a bump cos it's still May 25th for you lot and this is one of my 'favourite' charidees

I feel for them too ,however, i happen to think that recent events, Madeleine MacCann being missing, i see no reason why not to state the obvious! for ME and i'm sure lots of others has raised awareness for all missing children.
It's made me think of what a lovely little bubble i live in and i certainly will be looking into how i can help missing children. I have already heled the MacCanns.
I do find it really really sad though about the boycotting thread. I just can't help but feel so let down by mumsnet that so many could do such a thing.
I know that poeple were getting hurt feelings and maybe needed a break but i just think for US as a top parenting website to not be able to discuss this is so sad.

mumemma · 25/05/2007 22:26

Angeliz - I don't think the boycotting thread is necessarily the problem. It's the dreadful criticisms of the McCanns and the subsequent arguing and bullying that kept happening in the Madeleine threads, despite the majority of people's best intentions. Ultimately, most people are praying desperately for Madeleine's safe return but have decided not to discuss it at all, rather than get into a row.

I found the interview with the McCanns earlier hard to watch - it's all so sad.

MrsJC, I think the article was very well written, and summed up exactly what the nation has been thinking. Its great for us to send our hearts out to little Madeleine, and we do - I do!!! But there are just so many others that dont get even a sniff of attention.

It made mention, that if nothing else, this case will have certainly opened our eyes to the high volume of young people that do go missing every year; Maybe this charity will be a bit higher on peoples agendas, now they can see the heartbreak and devastation it brings to family and loved ones, when someone does go missing.

My comments no way detract my sentiments or feelings that I have had for the McCann case. The McCann family have been wonderful in maintaining a high media profile for little Madeleine, and good on them, they have been great. I hope she is found soon.

xx
