Tory Eurosceptic MP Jacob Rees-Mogg has defended his City firm setting up an investment fund in Ireland after it emerged that its clients were warned about the risks of a "hard" Brexit.

It's comforting to know that Jacob Rees-Mogg will ensure his wealthy clients are shielded from the repercussions of a 'hard' Brexit which he has so strongly advocated.

Of course, the rest of us will just have to soldier on.

The arrogance and entitlement of some of these Tory hardline brexiteers is breath-taking. Ironic that Reese Mogg is doing this considering he has very little positive things to say about Ireland. extract below from an interview he did a number of weeks ago with Robert Peston:

Mr Rees-Mogg responded by suggesting that the issue of Ireland had undermined British politics for “much more than 100 years. It’s a very long and complex history.”

The investment firm he co-founded in 2007 and which he is no longer on the board of, or employed by you mean?

The investment firm Jacob Rees-Mogg co-owns and has continued to do some work there while an MP.

Rees-Mogg states he owns at least 15 per cent of Somerset Capital Management in the register of MPs’ interests but doesn’t declare the dividend he receives. SCM has paid its partners a total of £59.9m since he was elected in 2010.

Rees-Mogg " did declare a £173,000 payment he received from SCM as part of a £5.98m “remuneration” package in the year to March, and states that he is paid up to £20,255 a month for working between 30-35 hours a month for the business."

The idea is that these wealthy Brexiteers will shelter themselves during the rocky years of transition then swoop in to take advantage of our low wage, low regulation economy

Indeed, just like the Victorian era, the heyday of the British Empire.

Brexiteers are delighted that they have convinced large swathes of the working classes to return to Dickensian conditions.

All they need to do now is to get the former colonies to play ball and accept deeply unfavourable trade agreements just like the good old days. Hmm

Mr Rees-Mogg responded by suggesting that the issue of Ireland had undermined British politics for “much more than 100 years. It’s a very long and complex history.”

He views them as damned, pesky Irish who don't know their place.

Brexiteer Lord Kilclooney has already outlined that nationalists in Northern Ireland could no longer claim equality. He also referred to the prime minister (taoiseach) of the Republic of Ireland as 'the Indian'.
