Well ffs. I was reading the bbc website last night and was absolutely stunned at the complete lack of understanding of the majority of people making comments.
"Gordon shouldn't be prime minister because he is unelected" - well durr we elect local mps first passs the post system majority party not a president.
"Gordon shouldn't be prime minister because he has a socttish constituency." Well it is for the uk parliment he isn't an msp
Gordon shouldn't be pm because well basically he is scottish.
I am appalled by the lack of understanding and the anti-scot feelings appearing.
to reel in horror look here

It's a bit of a poisoned chalice at the moment though, isn't it? I think it's a shame there wasn't a leadership contest, but not a surprise.

mm, I do think you'd have to be slightly daft to want the job now with Iraq etc, i think if you had longer term ambitions waiting would be a wise thing tbh- let somebody else do the dirty work

Whereas where GB is in his career, its now or never isn't it?

I don't know if the law has been changed but at one time the PM didn't even have to be an MP, he could be from the House of Lords. I think Alec Douglas Home in the 60's was the last person to become PM in that manner.

Poor old Gordon, "Acting" Prime Minister until the next election and then probably out on his ear, still it'll boost his civil service pension pot nicely.

Its a shame he's raided most of our pension pots to fund his time as chancellor.

That's what I think too, PC, he's got no choice but maybe the more heavyweight potential contenders have the option of waiting in the wings a bit.
I think it's quite telling that he didn't get any real opposition.

exactly Grrr.

Gordon Brown said when John Major took over from Thatcher that an election should be called immediately. Ahem.

Noticed on the BBC News that he has considerably toned down his Scottish accent, must be getting tutored by one of Tone's image consultants. Blair pretended he had only briefly been north of the border. I suppose we are being greedy with all these politicians in the Executive and in government. Actually as I am writing this I don't know if that is something to be proud of, a parcel of rogues indeed.

Hilarious arse-kissing going on between Bush and Blair though. It is like the end of a love affair!

I had just come across that as well. He should keep his own advice.
