lissielou · 10/05/2007 13:58

i think hes done great things, the tories destroyed this country, privatised the health service and sold off all our manufacturing. yes he's made mistakes but he has had a positive influence on great britain imho.

Hmmm-on balance not bad but don't agree that the Tories "destroyed" this country.

Bloody dreading Brown being the new PM though.

lissielou · 10/05/2007 14:19

whys that whooosh?

UnquietDad · 10/05/2007 14:24

I give it till the first week in July before we see the first COME BACK TONY, ALL IS FORGIVEN T-shirts.

SoapOnARope · 10/05/2007 14:26

so the Tories destroyed this country?

ok so in 10 years TEN YEARS what is Blair's legacy on the NHS?

don't bother, its a feckin shambles!

lissielou · 10/05/2007 14:26

lol, tbh i think people have forgotten what life was like under the Tories. i grew up in an unemployed family and i'll never forget what life was like for us!

secondclasscitizen · 10/05/2007 14:29

i agree lissie.

many working class people hve made money under blair. then it turned into the late 80's all over again - even the fashion.

the haves and the have nots.

every time they fuck up the country i remain in a job. so i dont mind

southeastastra · 10/05/2007 14:30

i have come to the conculsion that they're all as bad as each other

SoapOnARope · 10/05/2007 14:32

I was a working class family under Thatcher.

I'd vote her in again

OonaghBhuna · 10/05/2007 14:34

Hi there,
Im from N.Ireland, Im in my mid thirties so I grew up knowing nothing else but living in the troubles. There has been a dramatic change and tranformation in this country in the last ten years.....

lissielou · 10/05/2007 14:34

lol southeast. i may not have agreed with some of blairs decisions but imho bair government has def been no worse than thatchers. and at least we ahve a minimum wage, proper mat pay/leave and working class people have a fighting chance of making ends meet.

OP posts:
lissielou · 10/05/2007 14:35

great point oonagh, NI is one of his triumphs.

why soap?

OP posts:
SoapOnARope · 10/05/2007 14:35

do they have a fighting chance of paying off student debt, buying their first home?

Whoooosh · 10/05/2007 14:35

Why am I dreading Brown-becasue I think he is dull,no charisma and whilst was a bloody good chancellor (on the whole)I really do not think he will be a good PM.

LoveMyGirls · 10/05/2007 14:36

I aint bothered!!!!!

Seriousy, i dont know much so should probably stay quiet but the worst thing that has been introduced since tony came along if WFTC - hate it and hope it gets scrapped other than that and house prices its been ok i guess?

Dd1 seemed to like tony.

lissielou · 10/05/2007 14:38

but thats a natural economic cycle! people make more money, spend more, interest rates rise so everything becomes more expensive. i dont think he can be held solely responsible. dh is a business student and we know that buying a house will be tough, and he will have to pay off student debts but under thatcher he wouldnt have been able to afford to go to uni at all!

OP posts:
lissielou · 10/05/2007 14:39

actually agree with you there whooosh, did you see dead ringers impersonations of him? hilarious!

mw14 · 11/05/2007 10:36

Tony Blair's REIGN? He's only the Prime Minister, not the Monarch!

MamaMaiasaura · 11/05/2007 10:40

Reign.. ffs he aint the king.

He has bolloxed the NHS, screwed up Iraq, lied repeatedly, been a twat of a husband.. the list goes on..

HE is a politicain tho.. so we should really expect it.

fleacircus · 11/05/2007 10:43

I don't think the prime minister's job is to be interesting and charismatic, though. And Brown has a degree of gravitas that the considerably more 'entertaining' opposition leader definitely lacks. Not sure how I feel about him as PM, though.

fleacircus · 11/05/2007 10:46

The NHS isn't actually worse, IMO. Nor is education. At least under Blair's leadership hospitals and schools have found it possible to recruit doctors, nurses and teachers, which certainly wasn't the case under the previous government. And putting the Bank of England in charge of interest rates was politically extremely impressive.

PeachyChocolateEClair · 11/05/2007 10:48

I have to say i'm with Lissie.

I ersonally (call me naive should you wish but I have the right to my beliefs) that he went into Iraq with genuine beliefs he could help, I campaigned against it and wish he ahdn't but in many ways it was a close call (before the whole WMD thing anyhow).

The rest though- our lifestyle ahs improved massively, WTC etc have helped us hugely, mean that I can return to Uni so we can imrpove our situation for ourselves eventually. My aprenst have lost 2 pensions but neither has been as result of browns activities- both inked to American world policy, unfortunately. I beieve in Europe, that schools are safer, I think drugs / crime etc would have gotten out of control anyhow- and that a lot of the issue is related to the disaffected people raised with no hope under the previous Governement, especially as I work a bit in The valleys with the famillies who lost livelihoods in the mining crash.

I am sad to see him go, but i won't write off Brown yet, I will give him a chance. I think thata fair.

And I laugh alouda t peole who think they shold calla snap election rather than pass PM-ship on as theya re mainly Tory and what did the Tories do? Oh yes they passed the role on....

PeachyChocolateEClair · 11/05/2007 10:50

Husband?? IN waht way can we jusge him as a Husband, in what way do we have the right? (Not sure why he ahs been anyhow)

In worked in the NHS under Maggie, and use it now as have disabled kids, imo its MUCH improved, hugely so. Not eprfect or even great, but better.

MamaMaiasaura · 11/05/2007 10:50

THe NHS is in a worse postion - the pay rises for nurse where way way bleow inflation and they are closing hospitals and wards and there are not enough funds to pay for much needed nurses!!

MamaMaiasaura · 11/05/2007 10:50

Peachy I have been working in the NHS now and it is a shambles!

MamaMaiasaura · 11/05/2007 10:51

Perhaps the husband comment was a little inflamatory cherie just always seemed to look to unhappy .. judgemental there.. but hey ho blame on hormones
