morocco · 07/05/2007 16:01

am a bit depressed to find out that all my recycling/washable nappies/eco lightbulbs etc is all in vain cos i've gone and had one kid too many.story here
sigh
it's all probably true of course but I'm getting a bit sick of reading all this guilt trip eco crime stuff.
anyway, if you've stopped at 2 or less, now is the time to feel eco smug

LOL gess

Fio, a neighbour suggested DS3 should be wearing washables (for however long it takes, IF it happens LOL)- erm no, they did as babies but not adult style poo, thank you very much.

They just want to nick our bin sapce anyway, we're the only family in our ow of 3 bed cottages, and next door sneak out at night, 2 older people who don't even ive there full time (second hom ) and fill ours up with their crud! then ours doesn't get emptied as it breaks council rules.

No doubt this is started by the no kids anywhere brigade, charming types that they tend to be.

The dea os ds1 and ds3 on a plane terrifies me, really it does. No way.

I read the same drivel in the Globe and Mail recently, same story being recycled all over various newspapers.
but it could also be argued that a childless couple or even a family with 1 child or 2 children would have a bigger carbon footprint than a bigger family depending on how they choose to live

I am getting rather tired of all this eco, green living, carbon footprints stuff tbb

PeachyChocolateEClair · 08/05/2007 11:19

No Xenia you can't do that, the same people would plan that would ban the planes to bring them over

So we'd just ahve to pay for them to be raised there

hana · 08/05/2007 11:20

I feel no guilt whatsoever about this issue I have to say
is laughable

PeachyChocolateEClair · 08/05/2007 11:23

I like trying to live green, but it has to be within limits.

We're not allowed a washing line (age of house / tenancy thing)- now I could shed a lot of my carbon footprint if that rule were outlawed (esp. if I had to use washables and tumble dry them LOL)

Now we have to run a bigge car, we minimise its use where we can- food is delivered if we can arrange it, for example. We've had eco style bulbs for ages (we had to pay )

I'll worry more when other people can be bothered to make any effort at all.

gess · 08/05/2007 11:58

fio- is that from motability? they're always sending us ecobulbs!

peachy that washing line ban is ridiculous IMO.

Gem13 · 08/05/2007 12:17

Hi morocco - when did you sneak in your third?!

We match on children 1 and 2 and I had number 3 in January. Didn't realise we were equal again!

gess · 08/05/2007 12:38

Are they in an orange box fio, with a cardboard box that fits really snuggly- if so they're motability. We have loads, ds1 only lets us have low energy lightbulbs in the bathroom so we have enough to light our bathroom for the next 20 years

eidsvold · 08/05/2007 12:39

mant to add as the government here in Aus pays us to have children - we were told to have 1 each 4 mum and dad and one for aus!!

newlifenewname · 08/05/2007 12:42

Yeaah but somebody's gotta run the recycling plant when we're gone.

And we need lots of spin merchants too - I am sure I must have provided kids who could grow up and be one or the other.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 08/05/2007 12:43

everything is wrong.
we are all eco criminals, we are alive.

SueBaroo · 08/05/2007 13:20

I imagine the next report of this type will be written by the Daleks and have the single word 'Exterminate!' written on it. ffs.

morocco · 08/05/2007 13:32

suebaroo

Congratulations to you - just found your birth announcement! I had a VBAC and a doula too but was too chicken for the homebirth.

So dismissing this eco argument are you on for having a fourth?

morocco · 08/05/2007 13:58

no way gem!! another one born in the caul too , we are like spooky twins separated at birth.
just read your birth story - how fab, I'm so pleased for you it sound like everything went wonderfully
no 4??? wouldn't I be locked up for life or something for crimes against the environment, or is it better to just throw caution to the wind and have a massive brood now I've wrecked my eco credentials anyway?

CoffeeCrazedMama · 08/05/2007 14:39

So let's get this straight - according to these fine minds in order to save the planet we have to let humankind die out?

Like other eco-criminals with more than 2 (I selfishly have 4) we fly far far less than if we had one or two (six airfares sure add up!). I also think having children makes you care far more about the environment - I worry for my children's future and hopefully am teaching them some green values. Don't want to generalize or irritate those with smaller families, but having a few siblings usually teaches children perforce to have consideration for the needs of others. It also makes the parents poorer so they consume less! .

Funnily enough, in our street it always seems to be the 2 income no kids couples who have two cars...

SueBaroo · 08/05/2007 15:03

I've just had a look at their website, and by their own admission, most of the population growth in the UK comes from immigration, and the indigenous birthrate is already below replacement levels.

So what the crap difference is it going to make to get snotty about people who dare to have more than 1 and a half children? There's no logic to this kind of proposal, it's trying to solve one issue by bringing up something unrelated.

Or is it actually just going to encourage lots of Daily Mail style tutting at 'those nasty immigrants with their large families ruining the planet for the rest of us'?

PeachyChocolateEClair · 08/05/2007 15:15

bozza I agree- third house we've rented with the ban though

bloody ridiculous (and expensive)
