Can I just point out that the link is to The Sun, and is therefore unlikely to be true, or would that spoil everyone's fun?

bran · 30/04/2007 10:38

Well, in that case,
Angel Delight - doesn't contain angels and isn't delighful

thisisnotmyrealMNname · 30/04/2007 10:40

Anyone remember bulls eyes (like gobstoppers?)

hedgehog bread
baked Alaska
apple Charlotte
Cadbury's fingers
rich tea fingers
there aren't any nuts in doughnuts

thisisnotmyrealMNname · 30/04/2007 10:40

ooh - like the flapjacks - wish I'd thought of it!

No rocks in rock cakes

Gobbledigook · 30/04/2007 10:42

ROFL!! The world has gone completely nuts!

saltire · 30/04/2007 10:42

Yet Fisher and Donaldson's bakery in St Andrew's sell a Selkirk Bannock which wasn't made anywhere near Selkirk, it was made in St Andrews (or one of their other bakeries in Cupar or Dundee)

MrsBadger · 30/04/2007 10:43

speak for yourself re rock cakes, realname, mine are usually close enough to warrant the comparison.

No tea in teacakes though...

MrsBadger · 30/04/2007 10:43

scotch eggs?

thisisnotmyrealMNname · 30/04/2007 10:44

What about Tunnock's Teacakes? No tea and not really a cake (but chocolate-flavour-covered-marshmallow-on-a-soft-chocolate-flavour-biscuit) wouldn't fit on the pack

Or a Snowball (alcoholic version or coconut marshmallow - no snow there!)

bananabump · 30/04/2007 10:50

These bloomin' stupid rules insult our intelligence and suck the fun out of everything. Prime example: Bags of nuts which say "warning: contains nuts" on the back. If someone had suggested they put that warning on them in the 1950's, they'd have laughed their heads off.

At my DP's work they have to buy in non-christmassy christmas cards to send to customers, with nothing to suggest it's anything to do with christmas in case it isolates some people. I'm not trying to get into that debate, but one has to wonder why they bother sending a card in the first place?

Bureaucracy gone mad.

homemama · 30/04/2007 13:56

Just to add; whilst I can't comment of everything the sun prints, this story is true. It's not that far from me and my neighbour is good friends with the baker. Having said that, they told her this a while back, not sure why it's being reported now.

At the time, she asked them if she could keep selling belgian buns and they said,'oh yes, they're a british tradition'!

The world has gone mad. Between this and people suing their landlords after falling over p!ssed, the country's losing it's sense of perspective.

Kevlarhead · 30/04/2007 19:28

"Bureaucracy gone mad."

All they're trying to do is Not Get Sued.

All it takes is one dimwit, an enterprising parasite with a degree in law, and they'll be getting a repeated kicking from the media for handing over millions in damages when they could have simply had "Warning: Slippery when wet" printed on their pavements every five yards.

Don't see why you can't call cakes what you like though, as long as there's a recipe available for anyone with allergies (like ds).
