The story yesterday about the editor from a lifestyle blog having her bookcase go viral go my attention, and it reminding me of the instamums comments I've read on here previously.
It all started when she had her home featured in ideal home magazine, a comedian saw an image of her bookcase - where all the books are back to front - 'to keep it neutral' and let rip...calling her a blithering idiot. This then got tweeted and retweeted and so on, and within the thousands of comments they were a number of pretty nasty ones.
The woman with the offending bookcase then went to the times, to turn it into a story about cyber bullying and to criticise facebook for not taking action.
I don't see as cyber bullying - this is someone who makes there living from a blog, and its just so happens that this piece of content caused a stir. the comments are throw away, she is not getting persistently targeted - if anything her bookcase is the victim of cyber bullying.
On her blog she has written a piece about how she is creating a 'community' where people are free to speak their minds - when really that community exists for her and her bosses to sell us stuff we don't really need, by showing off their own homes/ wardrobes/ make up bags making us all realise how c*&p ours really our.
I also think its wrong to criticise facebook while the blog she edits has several sponsored facebook posts running. seems ok to use facebook lack of ethics to grow your following and income, but not ok when facebook don't take an ethical high ground and remove comments about you or your brand (or bookcase)!!!
