Back to front books & instahomes

The story yesterday about the editor from a lifestyle blog having her bookcase go viral go my attention, and it reminding me of the instamums comments I've read on here previously.
It all started when she had her home featured in ideal home magazine, a comedian saw an image of her bookcase - where all the books are back to front - 'to keep it neutral' and let rip...calling her a blithering idiot. This then got tweeted and retweeted and so on, and within the thousands of comments they were a number of pretty nasty ones.
The woman with the offending bookcase then went to the times, to turn it into a story about cyber bullying and to criticise facebook for not taking action.
I don't see as cyber bullying - this is someone who makes there living from a blog, and its just so happens that this piece of content caused a stir. the comments are throw away, she is not getting persistently targeted - if anything her bookcase is the victim of cyber bullying.
On her blog she has written a piece about how she is creating a 'community' where people are free to speak their minds - when really that community exists for her and her bosses to sell us stuff we don't really need, by showing off their own homes/ wardrobes/ make up bags making us all realise how c*&p ours really our.
I also think its wrong to criticise facebook while the blog she edits has several sponsored facebook posts running. seems ok to use facebook lack of ethics to grow your following and income, but not ok when facebook don't take an ethical high ground and remove comments about you or your brand (or bookcase)!!!

Maybe OT, but what is a back to front bookcase?

iklboo · 17/01/2018 12:05

One where you store books spine inwards so nobody can see the titles.

the bookcase doesn't really offend me...just think its a bit silly...but it's more the fact that stuff like that is shared to almost say 'try this'!
But when people say that's ridiculous, no thanks and it goes viral because of how silly it is...the editor then becomes a victim!
live by the sword, die by the sword!!

That’s a very impractical way to store books.

I’d assume that anyone with a bookcase like that is someone who hardly ever reads a hard copy book.

The standard response to not fawning over an instagrammer/ blogger is you're a bully or you're jealous. All negative comments get deleted to maintain their fantasy world.

To turn books round like that is mad. As sparkle wrote it just looks like they don't actually read. Too funny.

I did comment on the post she'd done on rockmystyle, and guess what it hasn't been published! Just publishing all the 'we love you and your home, poor you' comments!

Someone threatened to come to her house and kick her head in. That's serious. I agree with you that calling her dumb etc was not cyber bulling but more opinions. Violence and threats is a lot more serious and she should speak up.

Ambs81 · 17/01/2018 13:39

I agree that is really serious - but the threatening message, and the 'dumb sl*t" comment were from the same person (who looked about 11 years old and is clearly a nutter). The other 2000+ comments seemed to be 'this is annoying', 'this is stupid' etc - but the story seems to now be focused just on cyberbullying.
If this happened to me or you, maybe someone who just happened to post it on insta or facebook - I would feel very sorry for them. But this is someone who works as a full time blogger, put her home on display everyday. He income equates to how many visitors or comments she gets - so it seems ironic to moan about messages???

If it's her job, she has the right to be treated with respect, just like people doing jobs in the real world. Just because the job in online and makes money with comments doesn't mean she has to put up with nasty personal comments.

True. Most people would just think ' someone proud that she never reads - not someone I want to support' and click the x.
