I'm not a fan, it must be said, but she seemed to be showing herself in a positive light in her recent appearances on 'Dancing With The Stars' in the US.

Media reports have said that she came across as having some humility and the ability to laugh at herself, which is not how she's been seen in the UK.

Why, after being knocked out of the competition did she have to give the 'Go vegan' speech?

On the Beeb website it says she got "booted off".

Was that US fans she was talking about, Malory?

Because she'd apparently talked about being 'hugged regularly' in UK streets but none of the stalking paps ever photographed said hugs.....

If she'd made a speech about disability rights she'd have brought the house down, IMO. But to throw veganism into the equation was a bad move. Especially in the cattle-farming US.

which foot?

Bubble99 · 25/04/2007 21:45

Oooooh! Nooooo! Stoppitttt!

She almost had me thinking that she was an OK kinda person. But she couldn't resist the vegan rant to a totally confused US viewing public.

She needs to sort out some good PR.

Her charity on that show is Viva (a vegetarian group which champions veganism, although you don't have to be vegan to join up). So the topic didn't come out of nowhere.

Bubble99 · 25/04/2007 22:00

Veganism is not going to catch on though, is it?

Humane conditions for animals? Yes!

Nut-milk for all? No!

And she does that curly-lip/grating voice thing.

Yes, I know I'm being unreasonable.

I'm trying not to be led by the tabloid portrayal of her. The Viva people say she's a thoroughly bloody nice person.

You're right, veganism isn't going to be particularly mainstream, even though a largely vegan diet is very healthy. Was good for me when I did it, and I couldn't keep it up, even though I knew it was good and could see it was good. The treats did for me!

She definitely needs to learn that 'less is more.'

NoBiggy. I'm still narked about the 'milk causes cancer' thing that she did with PETA.

Not proved and not much comfort from someone living miles away from fresh and regular sources of calcium alternatives.

I think the milk thing was definatly bonkers
