Child abduction rumours at Heaton Park

SouthernComforts · 05/11/2017 23:03

Lots of tweets and Facebook posts being shared about a missing child at Heaton Park tonight..

MEN currently reporting unknown police incident and long delays leaving the park.

Anyone know if this is a hoax or what the incident is?

OP posts:

Sounds to me like a child is missing and couldn't be found which is why they are looking into a 'possible' abduction.

user1498726699 · 06/11/2017 00:44

It's on Sky news now as well so not a hoax.

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 06/11/2017 00:51

Oh no Sad.

I hope & pray that this is nothing more than a lost child who will very soon be tucked up in her own bed at home.

I have a 6 year old DD myself. The thought of it being anything more sinister is just heartbreaking.

Battleax · 06/11/2017 00:52

The clue is in "asian man". Hoax according to twitter. Racist shit stirrers. Disgusting.

FGS get a grip. How are they going to find abducted children when half the internet jump up and down squeaking "racists" at a physical description of the suspect?

If your way of thinking gains ground, everyone will just ignore social media appeals and maybe police appeals too (unless the suspect is the "right" colour) 🙄

FavouriteElephantTeddy · 06/11/2017 00:54

So hope it's a case of the child wondering off/not hearing announcements for their name in the crowd, and she's soon home safe and well

Battleax · 06/11/2017 00:54

They seem very sure that she's still within the park.

gluteustothemaximus · 06/11/2017 00:57

I feel sick. Can only hope that police have got this, and if it’s on lockdown surely they’ll find her? Hope so.

pisacake · 06/11/2017 00:58

"The police must have spoken to the parents though...or they would not say they are taking this "extremely seriously"

They just wouldn;t."

Police child abduction protocols provide that they will distribute images to the public to aid with finding
"A good quality recent photograph should be obtained as soon as possible."

library.college.police.uk/docs/APPREF/child-rescue-alert-2013.pdf

it doesn't make sense that they can't get hold of a photo of a six year old girl in an over an hour if they have contacted the parents.

Basically if they believe a child's life is in danger and could be saved by distributing images to the public they MUST do so.

So my feeling is it's not true, the police are having their time wasted trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Last Child Rescue Alert was on 10 October www.somersetlive.co.uk/news/somerset-news/child-rescue-alert-sent-out-607970

The only way they haven't issued one here is if there is no child or if there is one and they know exactly where she is.

Battleax · 06/11/2017 01:01

There have been missing children before of whom very few photos were available. I don't want to do anything that looks like speculating, but the possibilities of who, what, why are pretty wide open at the moment.

Battleax · 06/11/2017 01:03

The only way they haven't issued one here is if there is no child or if there is one and they know exactly where she is

Or for tactical reasons because they don't believe what they've been told.

Or because they're still in the process of getting their hands on a photo.

FavouriteElephantTeddy · 06/11/2017 01:07

The only way they haven't issued one here is if there is no child or if there is one and they know exactly where she is.

If they think the child is still in the park they may not want to alert the person who's taken the child to the fact that they're looking for her, s/he may be posing as the childs parents etc to try and get out of the park with her.

Battleax · 06/11/2017 01:10

In actual fact, when you read between the lines I'd say this is an (alleged) eye witness report and not a family reporting a child missing at all;

news.sky.com/story/police-respond-to-reports-of-possible-abduction-of-girl-in-manchester-11115941

They don't even have an exact age.

ZerbaPadnaTigre · 06/11/2017 01:11

She's a 6 or 7-year-old white kid in a pink coat who got put into a car. That's got to be in the running for world's shittest missing person description. Yet it says she was taken from her parents. You'd think they'd know how old she is or her hair colour or something more than a ball park age and MLP wellies.

pisacake · 06/11/2017 01:11

"If they think the child is still in the park they may not want to alert the person who's taken the child to the fact that they're looking for her"

That is the literal opposite of the police protocol. Also there are 100,000 social media posts about this and it's on all the news channels, so that makes no sense at all.

FavouriteElephantTeddy · 06/11/2017 01:11

If you read the comments on Facebook though people have seen a couple possibly the childs parents crying and acting heartbroken standing with police.

Battleax · 06/11/2017 01:12

Yes Zerba. Very odd.

So they can't find the "missing" girl and they haven't found her family yet either. Hmm.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 06/11/2017 01:13

They've tweeted a statement though so that can't be it. And they know it's all over social media.

It reads more like they are trying to work out if there is an abducted child.

ZerbaPadnaTigre · 06/11/2017 01:14

If you read the comments on Facebook though people have seen a couple possibly the childs parents crying and acting heartbroken standing with police.

People lie. Especially on social media.

Battleax · 06/11/2017 01:14

If you read the comments on Facebook though people have seen a couple possibly the childs parents crying and acting heartbroken standing with police.

So why no hair colour, exact age, photo, height or ANYTHING? It's all just FB drama llamaing isn't it? If the police had a better description wouldn't they put it out?

FavouriteElephantTeddy · 06/11/2017 01:17

Like I said I do hope it's a mistake/child has wandered off etc. Would be awful for this to happen, and yes something doesn't add up with the information given by police.

Battleax · 06/11/2017 01:17

Yes Rafa. Something's off, but it could be off because something else is being covered up. Or any number of things, really.

Horsemad · 06/11/2017 01:18

Is this for real? Can't see anything on BBC website.

FavouriteElephantTeddy · 06/11/2017 01:19

Horsemad · 06/11/2017 01:21

Thanks, I find it odd there's nothing on the BBC Homepage tbh.
