Is the rising violence in girls a "kind of twisted feminism"?

violent girls making the headlines

"Dr Sally Henry, a researcher from Brunel University, argues that images in the media are "feeding" aggression among girls.

And she believes the violence they become involved in is a kind of twisted feminism."

Is this what these girls believe to be feminism?

Is this just a further sign of a society that is getting more violent?

Is it neither of these?

Anyone fancy a saturday afternoon debate?

I think it's just poor parenting, actually.

I'm a bit skeptical that this can be classified as any kind of feminism. Unless she is saying that girls now feel it's okay to do the same stupid things that boys do... If so, I don't know, maybe it's a good thing that girls feel it's okay to act like boys.... but then violence isn't a good thing in boys or girls.

Yeah, bad parenting probably has a part here.

not sure about the twisted feminism, but very worrying article in culture section of sunday times today, about the increase of 'torture porn' in horror films [Saw, the Hostel etc] aimed specifically at teen market. Combined with the amount serious real violence available to watch on the internet [beheadings of hostages etc] there are some very real worries about what this is doing to the mentality of teenagers and people in their early twenties.

Oh, interesting point Ruty. Dare I say I think I'm inclined to agree with you.

There is also the rise of 'porn is cool' with teenage girls. Probably there is a link with this and the violence thing. It is all down to lack of respect for oneself.

And others, of course.
