Yet more promises on maternity care - how stupid do they think we are?

I don't know whether to ROFL or weep at this .

So they make some promises.... have 10 years to deliver.... fail.... so they just make us a whole load of new, EVEN BIGGER promises.

Is anyone else finding this frankly insulting to our intelligence?

It just seems to me to be such a f*cking great disconnection with reality it makes me think of Communist Russia: the output at our tractor factory has increased by 800 percent! Since the Revolution all the peasants are living in luxury!

(And I voted Labour )

completely agree. was gobsmacked by this. especially as they have just proposed to kill off independent midwifery services.

KathyMCMLXXII · 03/04/2007 10:14

Absolutely Bossykate! It's just so.... random, isn't it?

Ah, oh Kathy of little faith, at least you have to admit there's been a 100% increase in the length of Big Plans since the days of Communist Russia

I quite agree with your main point btw.

kiskidee · 03/04/2007 10:18

agree with everyone.

tiredemma · 03/04/2007 10:20

wasnt this something that was recommended anyway in the 'changing childbirth' report waaaaayyyyy back in 1993. Why bring it up again now- shouldnt it have already been implemented?

PrettyCandles · 03/04/2007 10:21

There will be an item on this on the ITN lunchtime news today.

SueBaroo · 03/04/2007 10:32

Well that's Patsy Spewitt for you. Idiocy

KathyMCMLXXII · 03/04/2007 10:36

LOL Sue.

Helloooo Labour Spin Doctors, are you reading Mumsnet?

It didn't work this time you know! We're not that stupid!

kiskidee · 03/04/2007 10:39

you know what, the more i think about this piece of news item, the more infuriated i feel.

kiskidee · 03/04/2007 10:41

and if you feel the same then go here and let blair know.

save independent midwifery

tribpot · 03/04/2007 10:42

I was really confused by the choice bit - don't women already have these choices?

KathyMCMLXXII · 03/04/2007 10:45

Not really, no. Only if they happen to be in an area where there are all those options available and enough midwives to allow it.

Oh I seeeee. I had ds in sunny Suffolk so it wasn't too much of an issue. I did see a number of different midwives at antenatal appointments but that was to familiarise you with the team who were likely to deliver. They couldn't guarantee it but I was lucky enough to get a midwife I'd seen several times before.
