Sad news

She worked with police to provide better care for kidnapping victims and their families.

I remember this case. She was a very strong woman. Flowers

dustarr73 · 01/09/2017 11:53

Ah that's so sad.She did some fantastic work where victims where concerned.

AnyFucker · 01/09/2017 11:55

Sad news indeed. I hope she found some true peace of mind.

Gingernaut · 01/09/2017 12:00

She wrote a book but I can't find a decent link.

It was an awful crime.

The book she wrote is referred to in the link above

Sad news. She was an incredibly strong and brave woman who did fantastic work.

sarasabrownie · 01/09/2017 16:31

Poor woman. Life can be so cruel.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 01/09/2017 16:37

What I find particularly sad is that for the rest of her life she was worried he would get parole.
Which is not unreasonable of her because it's not like that never happens. Shows how society lets down victims of violence.

Cocolepew · 01/09/2017 16:38

Sad news.

flippinada · 01/09/2017 16:41

Just saw this earlier, seems so unfair. I remember the case very well - 50 is no age at all.

Shows how society lets down victims of violence

Agree Countess. The trauma and stress will have impacted on her health too.

Gingernaut · 01/09/2017 16:44

I'm 50 soon. Life is cruel.

I saw this too, poor lady (although I always thought it happened quite a while before but DP tells me that was another horrendous kidnap of a young woman in the midlands).

HelenaDove · 01/09/2017 17:01

Very sad to hear this.

Gingernaut · 01/09/2017 17:04

There was this horrible story about Lesley Whittle by a career criminal about 40 odd years ago.

I was just listening to her talking in an old interview on Radio 4. What came over was how she was determined not to defined by this dreadful crime.
What a courageous woman.

Agerbilatemycardigan · 01/09/2017 19:01

All she wanted to do was have a normal life and to recover from the horrific crime that was committed. It took her so long to find some peace and by then it was too late.

Onthehighseas · 01/09/2017 19:04

Stephanie Slater and Jill Saward will always stick in my memory as amazingly strong women who worked so hard to make good things come from evil. Very sad news.

Feenie · 01/09/2017 19:36

She was a huge Adam Ant fan and part of a Facebook Adam Ant group I'm in - a fellow fan who she commissioned some Adam art work from announced last night that she'd passed away without seeing it. No one had any idea until today that she was the Stephanie Slater. Every one is sad and shocked.

annandale · 01/09/2017 19:41

I remember reading about her talking about listening to the radio while she was in captivity (don't want to describe the horrible detail of what that scumbag did) and how she used to find herself laughing so much at I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, and i thought then she sounded so strong and such a personality. I'm sure she is a huge loss to her friends and family. RIP.

WesternMeadowlark · 05/09/2017 11:56

Only finding out about this here. Such sad news. I remember seeing her in a documentary about the case, and I loved her attitude. R.I.P.
