... I've read it about three times and can't actually understand what point she is making

except that she isn't incredibly fond of Kate Garrawya

tiredemma · 25/03/2007 14:57

Oh God, not her again...

I think she's rubbing her hands with glee that someone famous has to abide by planning rules. And she has run out of things to write about so this is Polly Filla. God she's annoying.

No one starts building without planning permission. They're idiots if they did so. You get permission and then you build. It's very very high risk particularly in a conservation area to build and then seek permission. This is nothing to do with her being well known. It's ridiculous for the father to say we had to build without permission because we're having a baby. Would he think I could build another home in my gardne because a baby was on the way? Haven't they heard of planning rules? I hope they're made to tear the whole thing down.

"Miss Garraway and her husband put in a planning application in December 2005, to build the nursery at their £550,000 home.
The application was thrown out as the proposed extension did not suit the local conservation area.
However, when planners visited Miss Garraway?s Georgian three-storey house they found she had started building regardless.
In November 2006, when the work was complete, the couple put in a retrospective second planning application for the single-storey conversion.
But their neighbours complained it flouted conservation guidelines and blocked their view. Rodney Austin of the Arlington Association residents? group said: "It is out of scale with the existing buildings."
And on Monday the retrospective permission was refused, prompting the outburst. Committee chairman George Allan told the couple: "I am not prepared to take this disruption. I am putting you both on a final warning."
Afterwards, Miss Garraway said: "We have already lowered the extension three times.
"We have had quite a lot of bullying and harassment over the past 18 months.
"The Arlington Association claims to represent everyone but instead of allowing us to join we are having to argue with them."

Dr Draper, 37, a former Labour spin doctor, said the couple had been targeted because of his wife?s high-profile job.
"We had to build the extension quickly because we were having a baby," he added.

Miss Garraway will have to appeal to the planning inspectorate or suggest scaling down the extension if she wants to keep it. "

I couldn't figure it out, either.

agree totally Xenia. Why on earth they didn't seek planning permission before building i do not know.

paulaplumpbottom · 26/03/2007 15:47

They should have to take it down. I can't believe that they just started work anyway. It seems to me that she is the one being bullyish not her neighbors

pooka · 26/03/2007 15:56

I was also astounded at the arrogance of going ahead despite having had permission refused.
Do they think they are above local planning restrictions?

RosaLuxembourg · 26/03/2007 23:25

Is a three-storey house anyway apparently.
Surely there must be a corner somewhere for an ickle baby? They don't take up much room, in fact if you babywear and co-sleep they needn't take up any.
