Bob woolmer murdered - should the world cup be stopped now?

haven't seen any threads on this so thought I'd start one.

now that jamaican police have confirmed that

bob Woolmer

was strangled, is it really appropriate that the tournament continue?

Even though the motive is as yet unknown, the tournament is marred by this now and whoever wins will do so under the shaddow of this poor man's murder.

It is all very suspicious . There is a suggestion of match fixing scams behind the scenes and it seems he must have known his killer as there were no signs of a struggle. Certainly the tournament will lose its credibility.

yes it should ..NOW

Seriously i think it should but i do have ulterior motives!!

Very sad

The ICC has said the cricket will still go ahead. they compared it to when the Olypics still went ahead after the terrosists killings of some competitors.

As to whether it is cancelled? I don't know right now.

I agree that the tournament will be marred by this, and the winners will be overshadowed by this tragic death.

I suppose there is so much tot hing about when cancelling isn't there? It affects so many other things and so maay other people. And would cancelling show the murderers they had won so to speak? So, don't know answer to that one.

GreenandBlackOtter but if it's cancelled it would have an impact on more than just the cricket. in fact the west indies has poured millions into this, what will it do to their economy if the tournament is pulled now?

then they should be reimbursed

its not right to keep going - too sinister

I am over simpifying it but...

both dh and I thought that his death was suspicious the minute they announced he'd been found dead - he was a proud man, dh has seen him play and I've watched a lot of the teams he managed.

Stopping the tournament would be a massive financial penalty for the West Indies - personally, I think the tournamnet seems a bit pointless now but I'm not sure that cancelling it would actually achieve anything. They could rename the cup in his honour?

Sadly, no matter what the outcome of the investigation, I think it reflects that money has become more important than the game itself (and this doesn't only apply to cricket) - the huge penalty for losing games (e.g. the difference in the amount of money for being in the Premiership as opposed to the Championship in football is in the millions) is ridiculous but it's hard to see a way out of such a dangerous spiral.

The world cup should go ahead. It would be impossible to reimburse the Windies for the loss of revenue if it were cancelled. Bob Woolmer certainly wouldn't have wanted it to be cancelled.

I was so to hear about this. Bob Woolmer used to play for Kent, where I'm from. I hadn't considered the idea that the tournament should be cancelled and am not sure it would be the right thing to do anyway. Playing on would be an act of defiance, sending a message that wicked deeds will not deflect normal life if it can be avoided. I feel very sad for his family, too - what a shock.
