Because they are going to smash it, landslide victory, & all of that.

Well, Theresa May smashed it alright. Not quite as surferjet envisaged though.

Theresa smashed her majority into tiny pieces. She will now have to pick up the splinters such as the DUP.

Don't be like this. Be magnanimous, not sneering or spiteful.

Also, TAAT, innit. Why not express your view on the thread in question? That's the expected form.

(Expects to be told to naff off. Oh well)

lieka · 09/06/2017 08:17

Hah! Brexit winners like Surferjet were FAR from magnanimous themselves in last year's post-Brexit period: they were crowing and even mocking while many people were sobbing their hearts out and some were losing their jobs. I remember it (and a good few usernames) well. So Biscuit

abilockhart · 09/06/2017 08:33

We are very polite and magnanimous in comparison.

'magnanimous' implies someone won - I can't see anyone really did in this shambolic election.

hackmum · 09/06/2017 09:31

DonkeyOaty: the thread in question is now full and not taking any more comments.

I hope this result means that the Brexiters understand that they do not represent the whole country and that any deal they do with the EU has to be negotiated with the country's best interests in mind, not the interests of a few hardliners.

fatandlumpy · 09/06/2017 13:12

Um... you do know that Tezza has got into bed with the DUP. 'm sure you'll be lucky if you find any party more 'hardline' then them.

Climate change deniers
Anti-marriage equality
Anti-abortion

etc

... but they want a soft Brexit, then so that's OK.

Can't see how a DUP coalition is going to work long term

cdtaylornats · 09/06/2017 20:20

I foresee continual arguments over the brexit deal until in 20 months we crash out without a deal.

MrsDanversKnickers · 09/06/2017 20:23

Oh dear, it's all a bit of a mess!

fakenamefornow · 09/06/2017 20:29

I agree, please don't be like this. The country is in enough trouble, lets try to make it better.

abilockhart · 09/06/2017 20:33

That you, Theresa?

OP posts:
fakenamefornow · 09/06/2017 20:38

I had added that this mess is entirely of our own making. I would have sounded even more like TM.

BoldKitties · 10/06/2017 04:45

Don't be like this. Be magnanimous, not sneering or spiteful. That's a wonderful suggestion DonkeyOaty. I'd fully support that. Can we apply it across the board? I only ask, as on the thread linked by the OP, Remain voters were repeatedly referred to as 'Remoaners', then called delicate little flowers and poor ickle snowflakes. And there were so many gloating threads on here in the wake of Brexit. And 'Remoaners' was thrown about a lot. But yes, lets be magnanimous, not sneering or spiteful. I am so on board with that.

people to admit that their analysis was just wrong.

They won't. Some of these brexiteers are like comical Ali from the Iraq war.

Can't see how a DUP coalition is going to work long term

It isn't a coalition. And EVEL will not prevent an arrangement with the DUP working. The DUP can support the Tories on confidence and money issues which will allow them to keep governing. And the Conservatives have a very comfortable majority in England (297 out of 533 seats) which means EVEL won't give them any problems.

Note that some of the things being said about the DUP rely on quotes from a long time ago and don't necessarily reflect the way the party is today. In any event, because of the make up of the parliament we elected, no-one can govern without DUP support unless the Tories and Labour go into coalition together.

As for Brexit, I would point out to anyone expecting it to be cancelled that parties opposing Brexit lost votes. Over 80% of the votes went to parties that support Brexit. I voted Remain and would be happy if we did remain but I do not think this election gives any reason to believe that might happen. If anything it increases the chances that we will crash out of the EU without a deal.
