I don't understand why the parents can't be allowed to take him to America to try this treatment? He's their son and they have raised the money. I really feel for them, it is unimaginable how terrible it must be for them :(

My understanding is that his UK doctors do not believe the proposed treatment would have any benefit to him and that prolonging life support is not in his best interests as it may just cause him suffering. Sadly the courts have agreed with the UK doctors.

Absolutely tragic situation and I feel for his parents. Just reading about them and seeing the pictures makes me cry. Flowers for Charlie, his family and all other families that have these awful things happen.

From my understanding of his illness he is in constant pain, and the unproved US treatment offers very little chance of success.
I do feel for his parents, it must be very very hard, I also feel for Charlie as he cannot talk or communicate his pain or distress. Poor wee mite.

Desperately sad but he's reported to be in constant chronic pain and no doctor (even the American one) thinks he will survive the flight. The US doctor also admitted that, had he known just how advanced the illness was in wee Charlie he would never have offered it to the family. So very sad for all involved.

It was the American doctor himself that testified that the treatment was not only untested but offered limited success.

I think the question is not just whether he has the right to life at any cost but whether it is his interest to be treated as a human guinea pig with little potential benefit to him?

Not one I would want to rule on

Reference for the above

Yes, the American doctor said that the experimental treatment would not cure Charlie and would maybe, only maybe delay the disease progression for a short time. Poor wee Charlie has already lost his sight, hearing, ability to talk, ability to breathe on his own and ability to feed. The courts and doctors seem to believe that he may not survive the flight and if he does, it is only prolonging his suffering.

My heart aches for the family and all those involved.
