Why is the world standing by and watching as Mugabe destroys anyone who is brave enough to oppose him.

because there is no oil in Zimbabwe

baby sweetcorn and out of season french beans just don't cut the mustard

Marina · 15/03/2007 10:09

And I wonder if European govts are waiting for S Africa to step up and inevitably have to assist, as Zimbabwe's big neighbour
But I agree totally about the oil issue

puddle · 15/03/2007 10:18

Part of it is the way that intervention from us would be viewed, as a former colonial power. There is a lot of pressure of S Africa to step up to the plate and lead on this issue and I think from the news today that this is beginning to happen.

Bubble99 · 15/03/2007 10:20

And the police and army are, I suppose, the only people being paid by him.

There have been mutterings about increasing sanctions. Do these really work? Only the people seem to suffer.Mugabe looks after anyone who supports him and they support him because he looks after them, IYSWIM.

Well, we put Mugabe there, didn't we? I think we should give S Africa max support and encouragement in ensuring a return to democracy in Zimbabwe, before Tsvangirai is killed instead of just beaten to a pulp

kitty17 · 15/03/2007 11:45

Mugabe should be removed, he had destroyed a beautiful country, my Aunty stay's in Zambia and I know how hard things are there for them. I would hate to go to Zimbabwe these day's.

RanToTheHills · 15/03/2007 11:48

can'[t believe what's happened to such a beautiful, seemingly stable (previously) nation. Also can't believe they dared to go for his face in the attack, seems the regime no longer cares at all about what the world thinks. I hope M dies soon (he is after all 93)andthat a quiet revolution follows with as few lives lost as possible. Has Bush even noticed/commented?
