No. The hackers withdraw when paid and the patches can then be applied.

thanks :) it's something I've wondered for a while.

Every security agency in the world will be looking for who did this, when they find out it'll be a visit from the equivalents of one of Special Branch/MI6/SAS/Typhoons.

If I was the hackers I'd be hoping for a nice western European country to get them rather than the US or Russia. It will also I suspect have governments taking a good look at cyber currencies like bitcoin.
