I'm not surprised! Yes current legislation doesn't go far enough', but this Gov just doesn't care about such things.

It is an awfully explicit thing to waste government time and money on. Better to avoid complicating a law that appears to be misunderstood anyway and improve and simplify the whole thing.

Simpler to make it clear to employers insurance companies that any injury caused by dress codes like this will result in large claims and then the insurers tell the employers that claims brought in this situation will not be covered.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/04/2017 11:52

Didn't they say that discrimination based on sex, race or disabilty was already illegal so no additional regulations were required?

Therefore you can't make women wear high heels unless you make men do too and you can't require high heels anyway because they may be unwearable for someone with a disability.

There was also an issue requiring people with afro hair to have it chemically straightened, which is clearly racial discrimination.

Of course, there is the difficulty about enforcing these rights while retaining a job. Perhaps some solicitors need to take cases on on a no win no fee basis?

Awful decision. Should only be in the case of acting on stage or in film.

HildaOg · 03/05/2017 11:40

It's outrageous. There are some cases where it may be necessary to the job; actor, stripper, hostess etc but you don't need them to work on reception!

slug · 03/05/2017 12:41

Why do you need high heels to be a hostess? Surely flats would be more appropriate. And surely, given the point of stripping is to take your clothes OFF, then heels, surely heels are also redundant.

HildaOg · 03/05/2017 19:47

No for a stripper or hostess the whole point is presenting a certain image. The image is the job. No different from expecting an actor to wear what's expected for their character.

Completely different from reception work where it doesn't matter what is on your feet.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 09/05/2017 17:26

Disgusting. If so, men should be forced to wear them too.

MissBax · 10/05/2017 13:04

It's not saying employers CAN make them. It's because it's already covered by other equality acts so it doesn't needs it's own act.
