Just wanted to highlight and acknowledge her incredible bravery and selflessness on behalf of rape victims. She accomplished so much.

Such sad news, life is so cruel.

LineyReborn · 05/01/2017 18:08

That judge. I still remember it.

Touchmybum · 05/01/2017 18:08

omg that is so cruel and unfair, god rest you Jill xx

derxa · 05/01/2017 18:09

Didn't her father publicly announce very soon after that he had forgiven them. I don't think he covered himself in glory at any point.

SilkThreads · 05/01/2017 18:13

Oh, she had 3 sons.
How sad for them and her husband.

EstelleRoberts · 05/01/2017 18:17

How sad. She was a remarkable woman, and the world is poorer for her passing. I agree that she should be honoured.

SparklyBusinessFuckingFairy · 05/01/2017 18:19

I remember this case so clearly, it really stayed with me and became even more relevant when I was assaulted later that year.

Wonderful, brave lady who has done so much for rape and sexual assault victims/survivors. At the very least she should have been awarded one of those bloody gongs in the Honours Lists, rather than the fuckwits who get one for just doing their job.

RIP

Celaena · 05/01/2017 18:21

Just seen on the news - I remembered her too. Such a brave woman
So glad she married and had DC

RIP Jill

LineyReborn · 05/01/2017 18:26

Yes derxa her father seemed to think he owned her ability to 'forgive' and then so did the judge.

QueenOfTheSardines · 05/01/2017 18:29

RIP Jill an inspiring woman.

Chrissiecat · 05/01/2017 18:36

So very sorry to hear this news, Jill was a wonderful woman.

The work she did has helped so many.

LockedOutOfMN · 05/01/2017 18:40

RIP, and love to her family. An inspirational person who has made real changes to many others' lives and whose work will continue to help others in the future.

OhTheRoses · 05/01/2017 18:43

Awfully sad to be taken so young. RIP. Very fantastic girl, woman, daughter, mother, wife, role model, etc.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 05/01/2017 18:48

I have been reading up on this today - I was fifteen at the time it happened so was only vaguely aware of the case (in that self-absorbed teenage way...)

Her father seems to have said some odd things, and I read an article where her boyfriend at the time, who was beaten badly, described himself as the "forgotten victim" - almost in a way suggesting that his suffering had been worse than hers Hmm

Did you know that she met up with the ringleaderof the gang, who did not rape her, when he was released from prison? They met up at his request and it sounds as if she was much more forgiving than I could have been.

PinkSquash · 05/01/2017 18:49

RIP and thank you for the work you have done Flowers much love to your family.

Madhairday · 05/01/2017 18:53

RIP Jill. An amazing woman who campaigned tirelessly for victims of sexual assault. Love to her family.

Sad
zen1 · 05/01/2017 19:01

RIP Jill; incredibly brave and inspiring. I was a young teen when she was attacked and was utterly shocked by the brutality of the case. The leniency the judge showed to the attackers was also shocking.

Sixweekstowait · 05/01/2017 19:38

I believe she was an organ donor as well and that her family are honouring her wishes. I remember it clearly - I was really angry with her father giving his forgiveness so quickly and then incandescent with rage for the judge. I felt genuinely sorry to hear this news today - she was a truly good person - how sad for her husband and children. I know life is unfair but sometimes I seems particularly rotten

Thornyrose7 · 05/01/2017 20:00

Sad news. A courageous woman, who changed societal attitudes towards
victims. Jill Saward has left an amazing legacy.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/01/2017 20:04

I also recall this very well (same age as me) and well, because of where it happened etc - I know it shouldn't make any difference but it stuck with me because of it. Sad news.

BestIsWest · 05/01/2017 20:06

Very sad news. Such a courageous woman.

AddictedtoLovely · 05/01/2017 20:07

Always hits a nerve this case with me. RIP Jill.

Closedenv · 05/01/2017 20:38

I was coming to post a link, I've never felt so drawn to bring a sad news item to everyones attention before. She was indeed a very courageous woman. So sad she died so young.

flippinada · 05/01/2017 21:24

I remember this case, and the furore afterwards, how horrible it all was. The comments by the judge were appalling. What an amazing and courageous woman she was, very sad that she's died so young. RIP Jill.

FiveShelties · 05/01/2017 21:34

So very sad, she was an amazing lady and was treated so badly by the judiciary.
