The young girl in question has been denied the right to wear a jilbab, an ankle-length gown.

But Denbigh High School said the jilbab was a health and safety risk, and it already offered an alternative uniform for its Muslim pupils. It allowed Muslim girls a variant of school uniform and they could wear the Shalwar Camise (sp?)

Does anyone have any experince of this before in work or school setting? What changes have been made to accomodate traditional dress and beliefs. School I work in allows head coverings in school colours and long as they are tied back when they need to be eg in D & T lessons, scince labs.

Please no racist comments, but does anyone have any exerince of this

Dd's school asks parents not to put their kids in open toed sandals as they fall more often because they catch them on the floor.

I saw some footage of Shabeena Begum walking from behind (on Newsround, I think- she was interviewed anonymously before the court case), and the thing that struck me was that under her jilbab, she was wearing very high heels! Now, of course, as she wasn't at school she could wear what she liked, but if she wore those shoes at school under her jilbab, then they would be just as dangerous as the outfit. But if she took them off and wore flat shoes the dress would be too long! Maybe she has a few dresses of different lengths!

Dh's workplace has just banned very wide trousers and those with turn-ups, after a woman caught her heel in her trousers and fell down the stairs.
