Honestly, this really fucks me off. It just makes me also worry about the future (I have a son who has red hair, he's only 2).

This poor boy. I see the video and it upsets me. Then it goes on to say he lost his mum and step-mum in the space of 10 months Sad

Little shits.

Were you never an angry and scared teenager?

ShowerWater · 01/10/2016 15:19

What? Confused

ShowerWater · 01/10/2016 15:23

How can anyone envy someone who lost their mum and step-mum in the space of 10 months, at the age of 12? Sad forgetting the bullying for a minute...

That's just sad.

ShowerWater · 01/10/2016 15:30

Quite frankly, I'd rather have to deal with 'sexist shit' than lose the 2 most important people in my life. Yes. Who wouldn't? You'd rather lose your child than deal with 'sexist shit' if so, your priorities are Shock

I'm sorry for my comment, it was inappropriate in this thread and I didn't read it properly first. I shouldn't really be posting on here - I'm a teenager who only registered to post in the thread about that horrible incident in Oxford, so am a lot less mature than anyone here and not who this board is for. Sorry.

Poor boy Sad

hmcAsWas · 01/10/2016 17:45

I hope that things improve for him - he's had a horrible time of it lately Sad

Tiredemma · 01/10/2016 17:47

I cant bear this stuff. There was a girl who was all over the internet the other day being beaten up by another girl. It just utterly depresses me.

That poor boy.

Hope he is ok.

CaptinMuma · 08/10/2016 10:46

I have a DD age 9 with red hair, the video makes me very worried for her safety. I hope those children are punished properly 😢

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 08/10/2016 10:56

I agree with the pp who labelled this as a hate crime. If the lad was violently assaulted because of his skin colour I suspect the attack would be taken more seriously. Gingers seem to be fair game for some reason in our culture, it's almost acceptable to poke fun at this section of society.

BigChocFrenzy · 08/10/2016 12:20

Horrific.

I'm baffled how / when ginger prejudice became established ....
I don't think it existed when I was at school, from 1960 - early 1970s, but kids weren't sweetness and light then either: I was racially abused, like the few others who were non-white.

Maybe because racial abuse is less acceptable now, those who need a scapegoat and enjoy inflicting pain have moved to a minority who are not legally protected.

BungoWomble · 08/10/2016 14:24

It existed through the 50s and 80s to my certain knowledge. There are redheads in my family. It only stopped thanks to Princess Fergie making it 'trendy'.

BungoWomble · 08/10/2016 14:25

making red hair trendy, that is.

dementedma · 08/10/2016 14:29

My nephew has glorious red hair. At 6 foot 2 and with a fiery red beard to go with it, he doesn't get much hassle from cowards!

mathanxiety · 13/10/2016 23:31

I hate the way the attack is phrased in that article and in the captions.

It's all passive voice - 'was kicked, punched and taunted by a teenage mob because of his hair colour' and 'He has been bullied for the colour of his hair ever since he started school'.

I would like to see reports use the active voice. That way it would be more clear what was happening, and maybe readers could join the dots.

For instance: 'Group of male teens beat a child and filmed the beating, then posted it on social media'. Or 'Man raped a woman in a pub car park.'

The colour of his hair is just an excuse for the exercise of toxic masculinity.
