I came in to give you what for but you have a serous point, sorry

emotionsecho · 13/06/2016 23:39

Disgraceful.

thecatfromjapan · 13/06/2016 23:44

That's grotesque.

I guess it makes clear that it is not paranoia when parents say the system is adversarial.

How do people like this sleep at night? I don't think like this. There is not a part of my mind where I could think thoughts like that. It's so depressing. Sad

emotionsecho · 13/06/2016 23:47

Just to clarify I'm talking about the firm in the article not you OP or the thread title.

YourPerception · 13/06/2016 23:50

I would be unhappy paying tax to a L.A. using funds in them.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 13/06/2016 23:53

A million pound contract to 'defend' requests for support for children.

A million pounds could buy a shit ton of support, but no, let's spend the money saying no to families.

Makes me bloody mad.

JacobFryesTopHatLackey · 13/06/2016 23:59

Oh wow, some of the blogs saved the tweets in their entirety. I didn't think they could be more vile. chaosinkent.com/parenting/sen/dear-baker-small/

ProfessorPreciseaBug · 14/06/2016 05:23

It would seem the real culprits are the local councils and their staff/elected members for choosing to pay the firm very nicely thank you very much to contest requests for help from parents.

The firm, are only piano players playing the music.

Samcro · 14/06/2016 07:35

bloomin heck how low can they go

Levantine · 14/06/2016 07:44

This is just almost unbelievable isn't it. Shocking

claraschu · 14/06/2016 07:46

What an appalling story

Mistigri · 14/06/2016 07:46

Utterly shocking - not just that taxpayers money is being wasted on this kind of shit, but that any business run by professionals would behave like that on Twitter. Its practically begging to be struck off or whatever happens to rogue lawyers these days (more likely a mild tap on the wrist I guess ... ).

gonetoseeamanaboutadog · 14/06/2016 07:53

Grim.

BreakingDad77 · 14/06/2016 10:58

In the Conservative brexit future they will only want able children and adults.

Its austerity (lies) need to cut back central government funding, too many immigrants (lies) draining the system (lies).

They cut central funding, taking money off disabled while giving people tax breaks. Some plucky adults, mums and dads try the odd demonstration here and there, but sadly the population don't seem to care.

BungoWomble · 14/06/2016 11:30

Lawyers. We're talking about a profession that is all about words, not morals, and is prepared to defend criminals. I've come across similar attitudes amongst individual representatives before.

In the system that is being created it is not even just 'able children and adults' that are wanted, it is a very few rich white aggressive men and a few crumbs chucked under the table to the rest of us. In that system, law goes back to being the tool of the powerful against the ordinary people that it was in Victorian times. How many people can actually afford to access it at need already?

Everyone who is not in the top 1% urgently needs to wake up and realise a world without public services and redistribution means. Go and read Dickens!

AugustaFinkNottle · 15/06/2016 20:29

The firm, are only piano players playing the music.

Somehow I don't think local councils told them to tweet last weekend.

Utter rubbish. The country is full of extremely high-principled lawyers: look at any firm doing legal aid work, for instance, and you will find people doing very high quality work for a fraction of what they could be paid in private practice. Do you think the lawyers who worked for the Hillsborough families are without morals?

As for being prepared to defend criminals - if you had been accused unjustly of a crime you had not committed, do you think you might by any chance be very grateful for the help a lawyer could give you? Or might yo consider asking a lawyer to help if you were the subject of domestic abuse, or being sued for something you didn't owe, or if you or someone close to you was seriously disabled as a result of someone else's negligence?

This firm is rightly being referred to the Solicitors' Regulation Authority, precisely because it is not complying with solicitors' compulsory professional standards rules.

BungoWomble · 16/06/2016 09:28

You mean they were caught red-handed, doing something very stupid publicly. If they had just said something of this nature privately to a few people, to the people who lost the case, what would have come of it? Sod all.

I don't doubt there are some good legal people left. But don't try to pretend there aren't bad ones. The very fact that this firm has been so open and public about it shows that there is a problem hidden behind the scenes.

Our official culture now promotes selfish aggressive 'must win no matter what' mentalities thanks to the worship of private wealth. I think we are slowly beginning to wake up and recognise the social ramifications, but it's coming a bit slow and possibly a bit late.

LookAtMeGo · 17/06/2016 08:17

Hear hear, Bungo
