I am against zero hours contracts, but as the political class allowed them to be legal, why are MPs calling a businessman in for questioning?

Thanks, TennesseeMountainPointOfView. I never realised they had so much power.

The BHS one I can understand as it involves pensions etc and legal rights. I guess this one is also about legal rights.

Staff were being asked from what i read, to have seaches carried out in their own time, but that is time they should be paid for. So sportsdirect are making effective savings on every employee, as they are already on min wage that means they are paid less than the hours they are actually doing.

The CEO was bit of a twat about it and made comments about the commitee which probably did him no favours.

Actually it's made a nice change to see MPs doing something about bad bosses and employment rights. Not very North Korea really

Generally if you listen to these committees the MPs act in a bullying manner. I think it would be fairer if at the end of one of these interviews the interviewee was extended the same parliamentary privileges and allowed to question the MPs.

This is about a lot more than paying below minimum wage. There have also been numerous ambulance call-outs to the Sports Direct warehouse, often for rather serious problems, including one woman who gave birth in a toilet.

While MPs can't prosecute - that's up to HMRC for the minimum wage violations and the courts for other breaches of law - it's right that democratically elected representatives should be able to investigate systematic law breaking by large companies.

Maybe Donald Trump will get involved and then you'd be happy, what with him being so great.

'Maybe Donald Trump will get involved'

The political class don't like him unfortunately. I'd be all for it.

I imagine Trump would approve of the Sports Direct business model. Man of the ordinary worker and all Hmm
